Hereafter, the inference for the sake of others will be explained. Since there is no particular need for the Pramāṇaviniścaya, it will be done according to this order. Secondly, why is the order not explained in this way in this treatise? Because of the need, self-interest is explained first. What is the need? That the Blessed One is a valid person is important, because this is what this treatise ultimately aims to prove. The opposite of this is unimportant, because this is what this treatise ultimately aims to refute. Distinguishing them is to refute the inverted notion in essence that there is no valid person, thereby proving the meaning of need, the omniscient all-knowing; refuting the inverted notion in proof that there is no proof, and refuting the lack of effort towards it, thereby proving that there is proof by explaining the emergence of the four modes of proof, and proving the effort towards the method of proof by explaining the reversal of the modes. These all rely on the inference of the power of things, therefore, before the establishment of validity, the self-interest inference that distinguishes between important and unimportant is explained first. If this is done, then in the Compendium of Valid Cognition and the Pramāṇaviniścaya, because there is no chapter distinguishing between important and unimportant, manifest cognition is explained first. And here, the unique characteristic of explaining self-interest first can also be understood, which is the author's intention. A similar explanation is Yamāris. In the four noble truths to be explained, because inference cannot be easily understood without understanding the teaching, inference should be explained first. And, Nima said: In order to enter the four noble truths, therefore, inference is established, and in order to explain it, the verses of homage in the second chapter are clearly explained. These are the two. However, the recognition of important and unimportant is different, because these two clearly consider the sixteen impermanent etc. on the four noble truths to be important, and the sixteen permanent etc. to be unimportant. For that inference, many inverted notions of self and other schools are also seen, in order to eliminate those, thereby establishing without inversion, therefore in detail together with the self-commentary.

The reason for saying "explaining for oneself and others" is that it is the reason for explaining to oneself, not the reason for initially explaining. So, what are the wrong understandings? In the definition of a correct reason, it is believed that there are incomplete other ways from one to six ways; in the case of definite numbers, it is believed that it can be inferred that results arise from the collection of causes; it is believed that shape can be inferred from taste, and there are others besides these three; in the relationship between the reason and the property, it is believed that even if the relationship is uncertain, refutation is established simply because it is not seen on the dissimilar side; it is believed that even if smoke arises from the head of Indra without fire, refutation on fire and smoke is not established, but simply because concomitance is established, it is considered cause and effect; it is believed that even though things that are made, impermanent, and different entities, are the property of the nature reason; if the nature is the same, it is believed that the reason and the possessor of the reason are unreasonable; as a branch of it, it is believed that sound concepts enter objects through the power of things; as a branch of it, it is believed that sound directly expresses its own characteristics; it is believed that luminosity, the same entity, and the general characteristics of different entities are the cause of sound concepts; in the classification of the nature reason, if existence is the reason, it is believed that existence is the same as what is to be established; in the case of the non-apprehension reason, it is believed that simply because it is not apprehended in the scriptures, it is believed that non-existence must be proven; in the case of seemingly valid reasons, it is believed that the meaning to be expressed is established from the expressing sound; and it is believed that the reason that is not made by a person and does not deceive in one direction is that the sound of intelligence has a true meaning. The refutation of these will appear sequentially in the chapters of the text. In order to distinguish between meaning and non-meaning, the chapter for oneself and others is explained.
