In order to distinguish between meaningful and meaningless, the chapter on self-benefit is explained. In order to distinguish between meaningful and meaningless, the chapter on self-benefit is explained. First, show the connection of the relation. In order to distinguish between meaningful and meaningless, the chapter on self-benefit is explained. It explains the establishment of valid cognition that distinguishes between meaningful and meaningless. It explains the remaining two appropriate chapters. The first has three aspects: first, show the connection of the relation; in the middle, explain the text of the chapter itself; and finally, show the conclusion with the name. The first aspect is: If this treatise is written as a commentary on the Compendium of Valid Cognition, then why is it inconsistent with the order of the chapters, and why is self-benefit inference explained first? In the Self-Commentary of Four Thousand Five Hundred Verses, it says: "Distinguishing between meaningful and meaningless depends on inference, and it is explained in order to establish it through inverted distinctions." The meaning of this statement has two aspects: refutation and establishment. The first aspect is: Some Panditas think that meaningful is beneficial, meaningless is non-beneficial, and distinguishing between them is accepting and rejecting the two, which depends on inference, so inference is explained first. Shakya-blo thinks that distinguishing them depends only on inference, is this a non-implicative exclusion? Does it depend only on inference, is this an other-implicative exclusion? If it is the former, then distinguishing them also depends on direct perception, and direct perception should also be explained first. If it is the latter, then it is unreasonable, because distinguishing them also depends on direct perception. If it is said that only distinguishing them depends on inference, then this is also unreasonable, because distinguishing the objects of benefit, harm, and intermediate abandonment also depends on inference. After refuting in this way, for one's own system, the definition and classification of valid cognition, etc., as explained by Dignāga, are meaningful, because they are in accordance with reason; the definition and classification of valid cognition, etc., as explained by outsiders, are meaningless, because they are not in accordance with reason. Distinguishing them depends only on inference, so inference is explained first. Just as Dharmakīrti said in the connection of the second chapter, the reason why the teacher explained the treatise on the definition of valid cognition is after establishing inference.

Oh. There is also room for investigation on this. Does the inference for oneself belong to the nature and classification of valid cognition as explained by Dignāga? If it does not belong, then the number of valid cognitions cannot be determined as two, perception and inference, and the fault of valid cognition becoming only perception will remain. If it belongs, then before the inference for oneself, it is also necessary to explain the inference for oneself, because distinguishing it depends on inference, that is, on the acceptance of the sign, pervasion, and thesis. The former view is also unreasonable, because it is said in the Pramāṇasamuccaya that obtaining and abandoning benefit and non-benefit must be preceded by correct knowledge. Although it seems that these two have the same meaning, they are not the same. What is said in the Pramāṇasamuccaya is that the object of acceptance and rejection of valid cognition in common parlance is the existence or non-existence of self-characteristics. And the correct knowledge that precedes it is both perception and inference, not just inference. Otherwise, if the meaning is the same, then at the beginning of all chapters, it would be appropriate to explain the chapter on correct knowledge alone. The thought of the deity is that because it is the reason for explaining the treatise on the nature of valid cognition, the first explanation is for oneself. That is, the treatise on the nature of valid cognition seems to refer only to the chapter on perception in the Sutra. Because at the end of the third chapter, it is said that the reason for the teacher explaining the treatise on the nature of valid cognition is the subsequent inference. And at the beginning of the treatise, the explanation of the first half of the verse of praise has already been explained in the first chapter. Because that is for explaining the nature of valid cognition, it is said, "Because there are two objects to be measured," etc. And it is said that there are four wrong conceptions about valid cognition and its nature, and these four wrong conceptions are the complete explanations from the wrong conception about number to the wrong conception about result. The meaning of the chapter on perception being the treatise on the nature of valid cognition is also because the four, such as number, are explained, thereby explaining the pure nature of valid cognition. In the commentary, it is said, "If it is said that it is meaningless to show numbers, etc. when showing the nature of valid cognition, then it is not so, because it is the meaning of having a pure nature." Therefore. On this, before inference
