Recognizing Through Movement Recognizing Through Movement Furthermore, regarding the ways to establish recognition, there are two: recognizing through movement and recognizing through appearance. First, recognizing through movement involves: It is good to meditate on the preliminary physical postures of calm abiding and insight, without forgetting the previous objects of focus, just a little. Initially, release awareness into its own nature and let it rest. In that state, examine what your own essence is. Then, allow it to move, visualizing the form of the Jowo (Shakyamuni Buddha statue) of Lhasa or the great statue of Tsurphu, clearly and brightly appearing, meditating until it appears. Again, examine what difference there is between the mind that moves and the mind that remains. Examine what difference there is between the mind that moves and the mind that observes it. By looking in this way, movement becomes self-liberated. Also, examine whether the great deity that appears as an object of the mind and the mind that causes it to appear are one. If they are one, has the mind become the great deity? Or has the great deity become the mind? If they are not one, is the great deity that is seen the actual great deity, or is something else seen as the great deity? Similarly, examine whether the eye sees form and the eye consciousness that sees it are one or not, and so on, as before. Likewise, examine sounds heard by the ear, smells smelled by the nose, tastes tasted by the tongue, and tactile sensations felt by the body, in the same way as before. By looking in this way, realize that you are free from all elaborations such as oneness and otherness, and knowing that everything is a magical display of the mind, if movement becomes self-liberated, then recognition has occurred, so remain in equipoise in that state. Forty-seventh Dharma session, thirty-eighth object of focus. Again, clearly visualize a joy in your mind. Contemplate until immeasurable joy arises. Also, clearly visualize an unpleasantness, and contemplate until unpleasantness arises in your heart. Examine what difference there is in the essence of these two. Examine what difference there is between the mind that becomes joyful, the mind that becomes unpleasant, and the initial abiding mind. Also, spread the mind as much as possible, spreading it in all four directions and eight intermediate directions at once, and examine what difference there is between that and the previous abiding mind. By looking in this way, since it is said that "two thoughts cannot occur simultaneously," it is not possible to spread into many at once. Realize that everything is a play of the changing states of this single mind essence, and movement is self-purifying and self-liberating.

The many knowledges become of one taste, one realizes as if water is poured into water. The forty-eighth Dharma session, the thirty-ninth object of focus. Furthermore, whatever discursive thought arises, by staring directly at its essence, when that very discursive thought dawns as clarity and emptiness without any grasping, then there is no need to separately abandon a bad thought, nor is there a need to separately seek an antidote. Because, whatever and whatever binds, knowing that, one will be liberated. Especially, when realizing that path, in this life, one goes to the state of Buddhahood. It is said. Thinking of a desirable object of attachment, let the mind become slightly uncontrolled due to attachment. Also, generate hatred towards an undesirable object and look at it. Also, when feeling sleepy, look at the essence of the mind that dispels sleep. Likewise, also look at the essence of pride, jealousy, and miserliness, and continuously look at them with undistracted mindfulness. Do not let the previous thought continue in the mind. Let other thoughts interrupt it. If the object of focus is too short, one will not become familiar, so divide each session into about ten minutes and look with sharpened awareness. Especially, whatever afflictions such as desire arise, do not follow them, but stare directly at their essence. By placing it without distraction, when the five poisons dawn as baseless and rootless, it is also called self-liberation by purifying desire etc. without abandoning them, and that is what is called the five wisdoms such as discriminating awareness wisdom etc., and the five Buddha families such as Amitabha etc. Likewise, by staring and placing whatever discursive thought arises, it goes to self-liberation without inherent existence, so it is also called the pith instruction of taking the five poisons as the path. Just as poison is affected by mantra, there is the instruction of taking the five poisons as the path. As it is said. The forty-ninth Dharma session, the fortieth object of focus. In short, from the display of the mind's natural essence, various phenomena such as virtue, non-virtue, and neutral etc. arise, but without rejection or acceptance, they are of equal taste, and without seeking a separate antidote, but staring directly at the essence of whatever arises, by maintaining undistracted in the four postures, those phenomena dawn nakedly, rootlessly, and baselessly in non-grasping and without inherent existence, thereby manifesting the wisdom of self-awareness, and the delusion of dualistic grasping goes to self-liberation. Avalokiteshvara said: Whatever arises, since it is the natural essence itself,
