To say, "That is a self-made, false path to Buddhahood, and these wondrous signs are also marks of demons," is merely the talk of those driven by jealousy or ignorance. Because regarding the way to attain Buddhahood by manifesting clear light, whether in general Sutra and Tantra, or especially in the outer and inner secret mantras, and particularly the immeasurable stages of clear light in the generation and completion stages of glorious Guhyasamaja, etc., they have not even heard a fraction of the ways to accomplish Buddhahood that cannot be measured, and thus they speak rashly. Therefore, such instructions are called the instructions of the inseparability of wind and mind. It is necessary to understand that the key point of the profound Dharma, known in the Karma Kagyu lineage, is precisely this. As it is said: In the monastery of Tsurphu Do-bo-lung, to the master who has mastery over Dharma, wind, and mind, I pray to the body of Je U-se, please bless us, the children of prayer. It is like that. Although the Kadampa lamas practice mantra, they say that one attains Buddhahood at best in this life, moderately in the bardo, and at worst in the next life or in seven lives. If one does not attain it, one has broken one's vows and will fall into the Vajra Hell. The need to attain Buddhahood through multiple lives is due to not truly recognizing the ordinary consciousness of equanimity, clear light in this life. If one recognizes it, it is impossible not to attain Buddhahood at the time of death. However, the reason for not attaining it is precisely because the essence has not dawned in equanimity. It is like not being able to stick a cold stone. The Buddhahood here also has two limits, the lowest and the highest. The highest limit is taken to be complete Buddhahood itself, and the lowest limit is said to be Buddhahood when one is liberated from the state of taking birth in samsara due to karma, and by that very realization of the essence, one obtains freedom to take birth in any pure or impure realm. It is necessary to know that this does not mean definitively reaching the level of a fully and perfectly enlightened Buddha like the thirteen Vajradharas. Therefore, one must diligently engage in accumulation and purification to recognize the essence in equanimity. 100
