Among the two aspects, essence and activity, it is easier to meditate on the essence itself because it is difficult to stop the karmic winds. Once the essence is realized, no matter how much one meditates, it is better to go into the yoga of the continuous stream without interruption than to go better. Because there is no good or bad in the essence of the person who has now realized the essence, the tenth bhumi, and the Buddha. It is said. If someone who has realized the essence dies without going into the yoga of the continuous stream, will the previous accumulations and the bad karma of this life follow in future lives? It does not follow. One of my students, a Tsangpa (གཙང་པ་, today's Shigatse area of Tibet), sold a prosperous one with three of them in his early life, and a consumer came here. When I meditated, I was born with meditation. I wrote a lot of Heart Sutras and offered them as a way to purify sins. He said, "Does that purify sins?" I said, "It purifies." He said, "Then I will do it." Later, I came to the presence of someone who had gone on a picnic. He said, "I don't have anything to purify." He said that he had realized the essence, so that's what it was. It is said that meditating on the essence for a moment is more powerful than confessing sins with the four powers for a long time. From the point of view of the samadhi of realizing the essence, if it is combined with the bhumis and paths, it seems to surpass the path of meditation. Even though it does not surpass the great path of accumulation in terms of the signs of temporary appearance, if the realization of the essence is compared with the bhumis and paths, it surpasses the path of meditation, because nature itself is more powerful. It is said that for a person with sharp faculties who is sudden, it is possible to awaken faith and virtue in the realization of the essence itself, and if one only exerts effort on the realization of this itself, through accumulation and purification, when this itself is realized, even if the aspects of appearance are not accomplished, the aspects of appearance will not arise. For a gradual person with dull and medium faculties, if one combines the stages of the bhumis and paths that arise from the sutras and tantras with the essence and the aspects of appearance, then the aspects of appearance will arise. According to the sutras, one first accomplishes the cause of the aspects of appearance for countless eons, and then realizes the essence. According to the tantras, one relies on the generation stage and accomplishes the aspects of appearance such as clairvoyance, miracles, exhaustion, and suppression, and finally realizes the essence through the completion stage. Therefore, the sudden person with sharp faculties should cultivate the essence itself as the sole reliance, thereby realizing the noble path.

Furthermore, for those with dull or middling faculties, because they do not focus on the signs of appearance, only the signs of an ordinary person's path arise. However, if that realization of essence desires signs of appearance, then by momentarily accomplishing the signs of appearance through the realization of that very essence, all signs of appearance will effortlessly arise. For example, the accomplished ones of the precious Kagyu lineage, in an instant, manifest limitless signs of appearance such as miracles, and thus subdue disciples who place their hopes on miracles. Therefore, in the teachings of the sutras and tantras of the Buddhas, such as the "Mother of the Victorious Ones," both realization and signs of appearance are established, and the methods of accomplishment are both separate and combined as appropriate. Among these, there are the method of directly teaching emptiness and the method of hidden meaning of manifest realization. The method of guiding disciples through the method of directly teaching emptiness is the method of guiding the Middle Way transmitted from the protector Nagarjuna. The method of guiding disciples through the method of hidden meaning of manifest realization is the method of guiding the stages of the path of Mind-Only transmitted from the venerable Maitreya. Therefore, the method of directly teaching emptiness, for those with sharp faculties, is known as the Madhyamaka that cuts through all elaborations at once with the view and meditation of the Madhyamaka-Prasangika, and is called the "Middle Way that is constantly ceasing and not abiding." This system also does not primarily accomplish signs of appearance, but primarily focuses on the realization of suchness, so all the qualities of signs of appearance will naturally be perfected as a byproduct. There also appears to be such a tradition of teaching. Therefore, my master, the venerable Jetsun Lama Oser, said, "If I were to speak in terms of realization, I have only reached the eighth bhumi as described in the Sutra of the Ten Bhumis. If I were to speak in terms of signs, I have none of the qualities of the great accumulation path." Furthermore, it appears in the Essence Gadara as follows: If one realizes the essence, the bonds of one's own mind are naturally liberated, so all signs of appearance can effortlessly appear to others. Therefore, from one's own perspective, there is no need to see or show signs of appearance. According to Secret Mantra, if one meditates on the channels and winds, most signs of appearance will immediately bring about common siddhis, but they are not beneficial for attaining Buddhahood. In general, even if one possesses all the signs of appearance that arise from the Five Treatises of Maitreya and so forth, there are still cases where one lacks realization. There are also cases where one has realization but lacks signs of appearance. There are also individuals who possess both, that is, types of individuals.
