If these (merits) are proclaimed to those to be tamed, they will become attached to me. Thinking, 'However much they become attached to me, I must place them on the path to enlightenment,' there may arise situations such as showing off one's own merits to others. At that time, something called the 'son of the gods' demon' will appear with the clamor and chaos of the eight worldly concerns of the Sangha and disciples. If all of that can be placed entirely on the practice of pure Dharma without defilement, then the continuums of both oneself and others will ripen into liberation, and the demon of the son of the gods will be gathered back under one's own control. Accumulation and purification will then increase rapidly. If it is not like that, but one is immersed in the clamor and chaos of fame and gain, like flies swarming around impure things, then one will not be able to gather meaningful activities in this life, but will instead accumulate the karma of attachment and aversion, harming not only oneself but also those connected to oneself, and will continue to accumulate. Even the animals that depend on them will sink into the mire of great sins, falling into the states of evil destinies and evil paths, sinking lower and lower. Therefore, whatever qualities such as clairvoyance arise, one should keep them secret and hidden, until genuine Mahamudra realization arises in one's own continuum. Relying on fame and gain, attachment and aversion of self-praise and disparagement of others are completely purified. Through the power of this dependent arising, all those connected to oneself can be freed from the defilement of fame and gain, uprooting the evil karma of self-praise and disparagement of others, thereby attaining realization, ascending to the state of a great being, and attaining accomplishment. When one is able to subdue the eight worldly concerns and the demon of the son of the gods, there is no need to deliberately hide qualities such as clairvoyance, but one must diligently practice. Therefore, one must observe whether the time for taming the beings to be tamed has arrived, and according to one's own power of practice and realization, and the disciples' faith, wisdom, and diligence, strive to increase the accumulation of merit for oneself and others.
