Thesis: Because after a seed, if the previous stages of growth of seeds, etc., do not cease, later stages will not arise. If one suddenly prevents the growth of each seed and a sprout arises, that is also unreasonable. Because in that case, there would be no obstacle to self-generation, so the situation where a seed does not arise from a seed would never occur. Furthermore, seeds would continue to grow until existence, that is, until the end of the emptiness of samsara. Because if it arises from itself, the conditions for self-generation will never be incomplete, and there will be no obstacle, so it is impossible for seeds to be extinguished. This is not pervasive, because the co-operative factors of the sprout, such as water and time, cause the cause—the seed—to change and produce the effect—the sprout. Moreover, the effect—the sprout—does not coexist with the self-generator, so the cause destroys the seed, and the effect produces the sprout, so there is no fault of the seed continuing to the end of existence. Even so, if one says that the earth-sprout is not another substance, therefore self-generation is established, then how can the sprout that has become the self-nature of the seed (128a) itself completely destroy its own seed? It should not be destroyed, because the earth-sprout is not another substance, just like the self-nature of the seed itself. The second point is: The efficient cause—the function of the seed—is different, the shape of the sprout, etc., the differences in color, taste, ability, and maturity, will not exist in your system. If one abandons the previous self-nature thing and transforms into a different entity from it, then how can it be itself at that time? If the self-nature of the earth-sprout is the same, then the cause that produces the sprout—the five dharmas such as the shape of the seed—are different, and the differences in the shape of the sprout, as well as color, taste, ability, and maturity, will not exist in your Samkhya system. Because the earth-sprout is a substance of the same self-nature. If one thinks that the shape of the earth-sprout, etc., are not different, then just as the shape of the seed, etc., are not seen, the shape of the sprout, etc., should also not be seen, but that is not the case. The shape of the seed, etc., is different from the shape of the sprout, etc., just as the seed of garlic is different from the sprout of a water tree. The Samkhya proponent says again: This is not pervasive, because the shape of the seed, etc., is abandoned, and the shape of the sprout, etc., is obtained. If one says so, then the substance of the earth-sprout is the same, that is, the undifferentiated one, in what situation

Therefore, it would become like that. If previously the subject matter of the seed's shape, etc., is eliminated, and it transforms from that into the essence of the sprout's shape, etc., then at that time, it would be contradictory to the essence of the seed. If the Vaisheshika argues that merely the difference in qualities such as the sprout's shape, etc., does not abandon the unity of substance, so it is not pervasive, then it is impossible to have a substance other than the sprout's shape, etc., because it is unreasonable to grasp its substance without grasping the qualities of shape, etc. Third, if your seed sprout is not other, then, like the seed, is the so-called sprout also ungraspable? Or, if they are one, then just as the sprout is graspable, so too should the essence of the seed be graspable, therefore, this is not admitted. If you want the sprout to arise from your seed itself (128b), in this case, if it is not other, then, in the state of the sprout, like the seed, is the essence of the so-called sprout also ungraspable? Or, if the seed and sprout are one, then just as the sprout can be grasped, so too should the essence of the seed be graspable. Because the two aspects of graspable and ungraspable are contradictory in one thing. Those who do not want this fault will not admit that the seed and sprout are one. Then, if that fault occurs when saying that cause and effect are not other, why wouldn't that fault occur for the Madhyamika as well? It won't, because the Madhyamika does not admit that cause and effect are one or other, because if the basis of difference, cause and effect themselves, are analyzed, they cannot be found, so the characteristics of other and non-other aspects are not suitable. Therefore, in conventional terms, when negating that cause and effect, etc., are other, it is merely to eliminate the wrong conceptions of those who believe they are other, and in reality, it is neither negating otherness nor establishing non-otherness. Similarly, applying all the modes of negation and affirmation, this is the common way of the Prasangika and Svatantrika Madhyamikas, but some Tibetans say that when both Prasangika and Svatantrika negate one thing, they must definitely establish difference, and some say that the Svatantrika Madhyamika has neither negation nor affirmation in ultimate truth, and in conventional truth, although there is no affirmation to be established in ultimate truth, there is only the negation of what is to be negated in ultimate truth, because if there isn't, then emptiness would not be a non-affirming negation, and ultimate truth would not be real.
