The destroyer of the side of existence and non-existence. In this world, my teachings, after explaining the unsurpassed Mahayana, having attained the stage of great joy, he will go to Sukhavati. Thus, in many sutras and tantras, the Bhagavan prophesied that the noble Nagarjuna would realize the ultimate meaning of the Great Vehicle and would explain and teach it to others. In short, although many arose, such as the three philosophical schools who claimed to understand the Buddha's intention, and the eighteen divisions, etc. (67a), they did not fully understand the intention, because they did not rely on the actual meaning, but were established by conceptual thought. The way in which the teacher Nagarjuna explained it was not like that, because he spoke truthfully as it is. As it says in the Lankavatara Sutra: The three realms are merely imputed, by their very nature there are no real things. Those who conceptualize imputations as the nature of real things will engage in conceptualization. Without self-nature and without consciousness, without alaya and without real things, bad children, conceptualizers, establish these as if they were corpses. Therefore, whatever is fixated upon and established is merely speaking outside the Madhyamaka system. Secondly, examining the vessel of the listener, and advising him to listen. First, examining the fortunate outer vessel through the three signs. And explaining the benefits of teaching emptiness. The first is: Even in the state of an ordinary being, after hearing about emptiness, great joy arises again and again in the mind. Tears from great joy moisten the eyes, and the hairs of the body stand on end, whoever has these signs, has the seed of the wisdom of perfect and complete enlightenment in their mind. That is the vessel to be shown closely, and the truth of the ultimate meaning should be shown to him. This Dharma principle of dependent arising and emptiness should only be shown to those fortunate ones who have previously practiced hearing and thinking about the principle of emptiness, and it should not be shown to those who are not fortunate, because even if they hear it, they will generate great harm with wrong thoughts. There are two kinds of wrong thoughts: thinking that emptiness does not exist, and thinking that emptiness is a true entity. The first is again divided into two: sects that slander the Mahayana, etc.

Some scholars say that emptiness has no meaning, therefore, they believe that the Buddha's teachings on emptiness were not spoken by the Buddha, but are theories of nihilism (67b), thus accumulating the evil karma of abandoning the Dharma, which will lead to falling into the lower realms. As stated in the Mother Sutra: "In past practices, one may have honored countless Buddhas, but if one does not believe in the wisdom of the Victorious Ones, the Prajnaparamita, upon hearing it, the one with little wisdom will abandon this Dharma, and after abandoning it, the one without refuge will go to Avici hell." Furthermore, some Dzogchen practitioners, such as Ra Rog, Pa Rog, etc., believe that emptiness has no meaning, thereby slandering all things, leading to the growth of wrong views and the creation of meaningless things such as the lower realms. As stated in the Ratnavali: "If this Dharma is held as wrong, unwise people will also be harmed, those who view it as non-existent will sink into impure places." Regarding those who believe that emptiness is the ultimate truth, there seem to be two views. The great Eastern Tsongkhapa and his followers believe that emptiness exists, therefore they also acknowledge the existence of the nature of things as the basis of emptiness. However, the Jonangpas and Shakya Chogden, and most Tibetans, believe that emptiness is the ultimate truth, therefore in the ultimate truth, all other conventional truths do not exist. Both of these views have deviated from the path to liberation. Like a patient abandoned by a doctor, their views are incurable, as mentioned many times in various scriptures and commentaries. What will be the result of teaching emptiness to them? Therefore, the teacher said: "If emptiness is viewed wrongly, those with little wisdom will be destroyed, just like grasping a snake wrongly, or practicing a mantra incorrectly (68a)." Furthermore, as stated in the Lankavatara Sutra: "Great Wisdom, considering this, it is better to cling to the ego-view as high as Mount Sumeru, but it is not right for those with arrogance who see existence and non-existence to view emptiness in that way." Therefore, the teacher should teach this Dharma after examining the student's capacity. Whether or not one has the capacity can be determined by the external signs when this Dharma is taught. Even in the stage of ordinary beings, after hearing others teach the Dharma of emptiness, one will be very happy in their heart, and pure faith will arise repeatedly, and one will be very happy.
