Separating from the hatred of the land. Cutting off bias and sectarianism, spreading equality. For the three concepts of enemy, friend, and neutral. Practice equally in the place of benefiting beings. Harmonize with the thought of having characteristics and not having characteristics. It means that the nature of equanimity is as mentioned above. For the three immeasurables that are cultivated, for both loving relatives and hateful enemies, one must be free from attachment and aversion. Cutting off the bias of the favorable and unfavorable sides, spreading equality, for the three of enemy, friend, and neutral, abandoning the three concepts of love, hatred, and neutrality, and practicing equally in the place of benefiting beings. Harmonize with the thought of having characteristics, that is, the actions of body and speech, and not having characteristics, that is, the actions of mind, to make them harmonious. Root: Loving-kindness of desire, compassion of stinginess, Joy of pride, equanimity of ignorance, Not the path of liberation, but the four abodes of Brahma. The aspects and proximity of these conditioned phenomena should be completely abandoned. It means that loving one's own son, relatives, friends, etc., but not caring about others, although it seems like loving-kindness, its essence is desire. Similarly, feeling compassion for one's own horses, etc., and not letting them work, while treating others oppositely, is stinginess disguised as compassion. Cultivating joy for the perfection, happiness, and well-being of oneself and one's own side, but not for others, is pride and jealousy disguised as joy. Neither benefiting nor harming others, but just staying silent, although it seems like equanimity, it is the root of ignorance, so it cannot become the true path of liberation. This fault is called the four abodes of Brahma, that is, the four immeasurables of the worldly creator. Therefore, one must abandon the conditioned phenomena that are similar to it. Root: Here, associated with the path of peace, The object of focus is all sentient beings, The nature of phenomena that appear but lack inherent existence. From this way of contemplation, it becomes a strength, Becoming the cause of generating the two Bodhicittas, Therefore, it is called the four immeasurables with special qualities.

Having completed, that very method of meditation, becoming powerful without obstacles and errors, becomes the cause for the arising of the two Bodhicitta minds, therefore it is more distinctive than worldly meditation methods, such as the four immeasurables of Avalokiteśvara. Root verse: Meditation methods have order and no order, focus on the target that is easy to arise. However, if practicing loving-kindness becomes the basis of attachment, then switch to practicing equanimity that is free from near and far. This means that if the practice of loving-kindness becomes biased like treating one's own relatives and friends, and becomes the basis of attachment, then by practicing equanimity, one can be liberated from that fault. Root verse: If it becomes ignorant and non-committal, then switch to compassion, thereby preventing the cause and effect of suffering. This means that if the mind of equanimity becomes a non-committal state of neither benefit nor harm, then by generating great compassion, one can prevent ordinary equanimity. Root verse: If compassion is weak and becomes partial, then switch to joy, thereby preventing the arising of inferior thoughts. This means that if compassion is only directed towards criminals, and not practiced towards all beings, becoming short-lived and biased, then by practicing joy, it can become an antidote to counteract inferior thoughts. Root verse: If joy makes the mind agitated and becomes an object of distraction, then reverse the order of loving-kindness etc., and practice them alternately. This means that if the mind becomes distracted due to practicing joy towards the happiness and prosperity of others, then by alternately practicing loving-kindness, joy, compassion, and equanimity, and by practicing beyond the order, etc., one can be liberated from obstacles. Root verse: By meditating in this way, the ripening result becomes manifest, obtaining both the body of desire realm gods and humans, and the ultimate benefit. By acting in accordance with the causal factor, and therefore experiencing such a result, one can be separated from unfavorable conditions and obtain happiness. By the power (of the four immeasurables), one enjoys the delightful realm of bliss and joy. The four actions become powerful, and one will obtain the qualities of accomplishing the two benefits. This means that by meditating in this way, as a result of the ripening result, one can temporarily obtain the body of gods and humans as a basis, perfect the two accumulations, and benefit others; ultimately, one can effortlessly accomplish the result of ultimate benefit; by acting in accordance with the causal factor, one constantly generates the practice of the four immeasurables; by experiencing in accordance with the causal factor, one can be separated from causing harm and injury to others, as well as attachment, hatred, etc.
