Chapter Seven: Entering the Actual Mahayana Chapter Seven: Entering the Actual Mahayana Having thus taken refuge, entering the actual Mahayana: Root verse: The realm of Bodhicitta in the lesser vehicle is like a pond. The mind of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer, degenerated from its lineage. Awakened by the power of the captain of emptiness and compassion. Goes to the ocean of the Great Vehicle, the island of omniscience. That is, the path of the Lesser Vehicle does not flow into the channel of benefiting others. In a peaceful place like a pool of stagnant water, the power of Bodhicitta diminishes. Eventually, motivated by the compassion of the Victorious Ones, the innate lineage awakens, and one must enter the path of the Great Vehicle. Therefore, for the wise, the entrance to the path is only the Great Vehicle. Having entered there, one goes to the island of omniscience. Root verse: The five perfections, such as generosity, whose essence is not shown in the scriptures, are like iron ore. Completely degenerated, the elixir of skillful means and wisdom. The moment it is touched, it becomes immensely valuable. That is, the five aspects of skillful means, such as generosity, are like iron ore that has not been shown in the scriptures as the great Bodhi until it is grasped by wisdom. Moreover, the union of skillful means, Bodhicitta, and wisdom, emptiness, is like the elixir that transforms into gold. The moment it is touched, it becomes the cause of the Buddha, which is invaluable. Root verse: Therefore, the Bodhicitta that unites the skillful means of compassion and the wisdom of emptiness. The four immeasurables are like the foundation of the earth. It arises from the two, aspiration and engagement, and from the discipline of learning. That is, compassion is the extreme of peace, and wisdom is the extreme of existence, both of which are prevented. Here, for beginners, the four immeasurables are made like the foundation of the earth, and they arise from the two, aspiration and engagement, and from the discipline of learning. Root verse: The nature of loving-kindness is the desire for the happiness of others. Just like a loving mother to her child. Abandoning all body, possessions, and virtues. One trains in benefiting others and enduring harm. That is, loving-kindness is knowing that all beings in the high and low realms of samsara are of the nature of parents, and loving them without any harm with the thought of mother and child, which is loving-kindness focused on sentient beings. Bodhisattvas between the first and seventh grounds are the nature of all dharmas

Even without (sentient beings), these beings who suffer because of attachment to things, benefiting them with the Dharma and striving to realize the nature of reality is love focused on the Dharma. The eighth bhumi and above is unconditioned love, which, although free from conceptualization, is like a jewel. The great compassion that naturally arises in the realm of beings due to the past aspirations of the Buddhas is unconditioned. Among these, the nature of love is the wish for others to be happy, like a loving mother cherishing her beloved child. Abandoning one's own body, possessions, virtues, etc., and only benefiting others, and learning to abandon evil deeds and endure harm. Among these, focusing on sentient beings is the same as with outsiders, focusing on the Dharma is the same as with hearers and self-realizers, and being unconditioned is superior to them. Root verse: The nature of compassion lies in the suffering of others, / An unbearable and intense mental strength, / Seeing all six realms of beings oppressed by the cause and effect of suffering, / Seeing them driven to the brink, thus causing tears to flow. This means that compassion arises for the three: beings tormented by suffering, the non-virtuous deeds that cause suffering, / and ignorance of what to adopt and abandon in both. Taking on the burden of their suffering oneself is the nature of compassion. Generating an unbearable and intense mental strength for their suffering, and bravely undertaking methods to benefit them. Seeing all six realms of beings suffering from the cause and effect of suffering, like a hunter driving wild animals to the brink, generating unbearable and intense compassion and shedding tears. Root verse: The nature of joy lies in the perfection of others, / Generating a joyful mind, cultivating good wishes for all, / Rejoicing in what is obtained through one's own ability, / And praying that in the future, one will not be separated from it. This means that the nature of joy lies in others possessing wealth, Dharma, and happiness, without any displeasure, generating a joyful mind, cultivating good wishes for all beings to achieve such accomplishments. Also, striving for the faultlessness of love and compassion, being able to accomplish the benefit of beings, generating joy without arrogance. And making the aspiration that others will not be separated from the perfection of Dharma and wealth, thus becoming virtuous. Root verse: The nature of equanimity is love
