Chapter Six Chapter Six Taking Refuge: There are three fears: the common suffering of samsara, the specific attachment to self-interest, and the dire need for the fear of ordinary delusion, like the turbulent waters of fear, which others cannot save from, but one should have deep faith in what is worthy of refuge, regarding it as the refuge and protector upon which life depends. The fame of the Three Jewels is like a white umbrella, like white clouds pervading the sky, so it must be taken as the primary task of entering Buddhism. Vowing to be the supreme support and vessel of merit on the path to liberation, that is, the source of the refuge, the only infallible method is taking refuge. Before that, if one cherishes the qualities of the teacher Buddhas and the sacred Dharma, then the root or foundation of all Dharmas is faith. For most people, faith lies hidden in the heart, unrevealed. Once one sees the teacher, the virtuous friend, or reads the Dharma of the scriptures, it arises like goosebumps, this is the initial faith. Similarly, in order to attain the state of liberation and omniscience, one must sincerely believe in the Three Jewels from the bottom of one's heart, this is the second faith. Believing that relying on the Three Jewels can liberate one from all suffering, this is the third faith. Whether virtuous or inferior, no matter by what means, whether gentle or harsh, one cannot turn away from faith in the Three Jewels, this is the fourth faith. Therefore, taking refuge must reach the point where one will never turn back even in the face of life-threatening danger. The causes and methods for generating faith are four: relying on holy beings, associating with virtuous friends who can increase virtue, remembering the qualities of the Three Jewels, and contemplating the faults of samsara, which is devoid of meaning. The Buddhas, such as Shakyamuni Buddha, have infinite qualities, and through what is abandoned by the path of seeing and what is abandoned by the path of meditation, they have destroyed the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge. At this time, one can successively obtain the qualities such as the five eyes. The five eyes are: the Buddha eye, the Dharma eye, the wisdom eye, the divine eye, and the flesh eye.

This is the meaning of what is said, and there are also fruits and
