Collection of Instructions by Ju Mipam, MP280, Avalokiteśvara Lion's Roar Practice, Wish-Fulfilling Jewel 25-6-58a Avalokiteśvara Lion's Roar Practice, Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Praise Text Shown by the Lion's Roar Mantra འཕགས་པ་སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས་སེང་གེ་སྒྲའི་སྒྲུབ་ཐབས་ཡིད་བཞིན་རེ་སྐོང་ཞེས་བྱ་བ་བཞུགས་སོ། །(The Noble Avalokiteśvara Lion's Roar Sadhana, Called the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel) ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་ལོ་ཀེ་ཤྭ་ར་ཡ། (Namo Guru Lokeshvaraya, Homage to the Guru Lokeshvara) Here, desiring to practice the accomplishment method of the Noble Avalokiteśvara, the great hero who subdues all arrogance of the three realms, the leader of the Naga host, the Lion's Roar, one should rise early in the morning and bathe with fragrant water. Maintaining cleanliness, sit on a comfortable cushion in a suitable place. If there is a painted or drawn image of the Lion's Roar, display it. In front, arrange a mandala made of cow dung, and arrange offerings such as flowers. Even if these are not accomplished, visualization and recitation are permissible. First, perform purification and other preparations. In one's own heart, visualize the syllable 'Ah' transforming into a moon disc, and on the moon disc, a white syllable 'Hrih' (ཧྲཱིཿ). Light radiates from the 'Hrih' syllable, inviting the Bhagavan Lion's Roar and all gurus, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas to come and abide in the sky in front. Recite: ན་མོ་གུ་རུ་སིདྷ་ནཱ་ད་མཎྚ་ལ་ས་པ་རི་ཝཱ་ར་མ་ཧཱ་པཱུ་ཛ་མེ་གྷ་ཧོཿ (Namo Guru Siddha Nada Mandala Sapariwara Maha Puja Megha Ho, Homage to the Guru, Accomplished One, Sound, Mandala, Retinue, Great Cloud of Offerings Ho) Make prostrations with this, and offer vast offerings, both actually arranged and mentally emanated. Perform the seven-branch offering to the Three Jewels, etc., purifying obscurations. Then, cultivate the four immeasurables. Recite: ཨོཾ་ཤཱུ་ནྱ་ཏས་སྦྱངས། (Om Shunyata Svabhava Shuddho Ham, Om, purified by emptiness) From emptiness, through the aspiration of great compassion, visualize the syllable 'Pam' (པཾ་) transforming into a lotus, and the syllable 'Ah' (ཨ་) transforming into a moon disc. On the moon disc, from the white syllable 'Ah' (ཨཱཿ), a lion with the radiance of the moon appears. On the lion, from the syllable 'Am' (ཨཾ་), a white lotus heart appears, and on the lotus heart, a white syllable 'Hrih' (ཧྲཱིཿ) radiates light in all directions, inviting all the Tathagatas of the ten directions, who dissolve into the 'Hrih'. The 'Hrih' completely transforms, and one's self becomes Avalokiteśvara Lion's Roar, with a body color that is extremely white, one face, two arms, and three eyes. The hair is tied in a topknot, adorned with Amitabha on the head. Adorned with jewels, with the eight Nagas' snakes as the Brahman cord. Wearing a tiger skin skirt, seated in a half-lotus posture, with the right leg extended, in the posture of a king at play. The right hand rests on the knee, extended, and may or may not have a lotus. On a white lotus, there is a white Varuna snake coiled around a white trident, with a human head at the top. The left hand, with the palm facing down, is placed on the ground, with the thumb and forefinger holding a white lotus, on which there is a white sword. On another white lotus near the sword, there is a white Brahmin skull bowl filled with various fragrant flowers. From the head radiate the five Tathagatas.
