Collection of Teachings by Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche MP246: Practice of the Miraculous Mirror of the Sage Amolika 19-19-1a Practice of the Miraculous Mirror of the Sage Amolika Om Swasti. Here, to practice the Miraculous Mirror of the Sage Amolika, there are two parts: the history and the actual instructions. First, in the past, in front of Buddha Shakyamuni, on the tenth day of the waxing moon, a very beautiful girl came and sat down. Shakyamuni asked: 'Girl, where do you come from? What is your lineage? What is your name?' The girl replied: 'I belong to the lineage of sages, I have no fixed abode, and my name is Sage Amolika. In the past, in front of Buddha Dipamkara, I promised that in the future, I would explain or demonstrate clairvoyance to your followers. In the degenerate age, those with undefiled clairvoyance are as rare as stars in the daytime, and even if there is some defiled clairvoyance, it cannot benefit beings. Therefore, at that time, if I do not show undefiled clairvoyance to those who possess discipline and bodhicitta, may my head be split into pieces.' She made this promise and offered her life essence, then disappeared. The second part is the actual instructions, which are divided into preparation, main practice, and conclusion. First, the preparation is to gather the materials: white sandalwood (ba le ka), calamus (shu dag), white incense (spos dkar), long-leafed fragrant grass (spang spos), dried long-leafed fragrant grass (spang skam), cardamom (gyer ma), pearl (mu zi), and garlic (sgog skya). Grind these eight into fine powder, put one part into a treasure vase (bhandha), and put one part into a red silk bag. Write on a four-finger-wide purple-reddish auspicious wood (pha wam long bu) with cinnabar, and use it as a cover for the offering. If possible, 19-19-1b prepare the life-wheel of the deity stone (bla rdo srog 'khor) as described below, and five four-finger-long sandalwood pegs (seng ldeng gi phur bu). In the meantime, prepare a mixture of dried long-leafed fragrant grass, cardamom, and garlic for burning incense. Arrange clean and beautiful offerings, such as tormas (torma) to offer to the lama, yidam, dakini, dharmapala, and local deities (zhidag), as well as white tormas to offer to the sage. One should practice after observing cleanliness for three days. Second is the main practice, first practice the immeasurable four immeasurables, visualizing oneself clearly as (རང་ཐུབ༷་པའི༷་དབ༷ང་པོ༷ར་,rang thub pa'i dbang por, Svayambhu, Self-Arisen Lord), and recite one hundred and eight times the (Muni) mantra. Then, purify the offerings in front. In the state of non-objectification, as if an image appears in a mirror, visualize in front of oneself, on a lotus and a jeweled throne, the great sage Amolika, with a red body, one face, and two arms, a youthful figure holding a mirror of beauty, slightly wrathful and smiling. The right hand holds a wish-fulfilling jewel (yidzhin norbu) mani jewel at the heart, and below it is a wish-fulfilling treasure vase (dod 'byung gter gyi bum pa). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Holding a vessel filled with nectar, adorned with the beauty of a wish-fulfilling tree in his left hand, his upper body draped in divine garments, and his lower body adorned with a tiger skin skirt, his hair is styled in a matted topknot. He is adorned with captivating ornaments such as a precious crown, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and belts. Standing with his feet together, he is surrounded by sages with clairvoyance. Visualize him being close to practitioners, proclaiming a resounding voice, and effortlessly bestowing the desired accomplishments. Visualize light radiating from the heart of the deity in front of you, instantly inviting the sage Amoghalika (阿摩利迦) and his retinue, wherever they may be in the realm of inherent nature or the four continents of Mount Meru, merging them into one. Focus intently on this visualization, burn incense, wave the arrow banner, and recite the essence mantra along with ཛཿཧཱུཾ་བཾ་ཧོཿ (Tibetan), जः हूँ वं होः (Sanskrit Devanagari), jah hum vam hoh (Sanskrit Romanization), descent, birth, victory, arise (Literal Chinese meaning) one hundred and eight times. Then, visualize the light of the mantra emanating from your mouth, entering the sage's mouth, causing him to rejoice, remembering his past vows, and bestowing accomplishments that illuminate the unobstructed world. Recite the essence mantra as much as possible. (Tibetan) By reciting this mantra, the good and bad of the world will be revealed in dreams or reality, merit will burn like a flame, and everything will be under control. During the practice, one should avoid meat, alcohol, garlic, and women. The mantra practiced in this way, possessing vows and bodhicitta, should be recited three thousand times. Those with faith, diligence, and suitable vessels should recite it thirty thousand times, and signs will appear. The signs are: in a dream, a beautiful woman, such as one's own mother or sister, gives food and wealth, and speaks many words. After that, one hears a buzzing sound in one's ear. After that, whatever one desires becomes clear in one's mind. Amoghalika himself will come to speak in one's ear. At this time, it is important to combine the practice with oneself and to keep oneself clean. One will see all the gods and demons of the world, and gods, demons, and humans will come to confide in oneself. One should not feel fear or expectation towards them, but should purify them as illusions. On the eighth and fifteenth days of the lunar month, offer incense and torma. After blessing the torma, visualize the sage's tongue as a vajra tube, enjoying it through a tube of light, thereby feeling joy. (Tibetan) three times. Then comes the request for activity: 'Kye, Sage Amoghalika' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
