The Practice Manual of the Great Gathering of Heruka The Practice Manual of the Great Gathering of Heruka The Practice Manual of the Great Gathering of Heruka is present. I prostrate to the Guru and the Great Glorious One, who are inseparable! Those who wish to practice the Great Gathering of Heruka should, based on having received empowerment and abiding by the vows, in a secluded and auspicious place, rely on a ten-spoked mandala, complete with doors, made of colored powders or a painted cloth. If that is not possible, then rely on a ten-spoked wheel with a surrounding fire mountain. If that is still not possible, then it is permissible to rely on a tsombo (painted pile), and inside a skull cup, behind the main deity's painted image that is endowed with consecration, place a sandalwood or senghdeng (acacia catechu) phurba (ritual dagger) of twelve finger-widths, with a mantra written in vermillion or gold on black silk around its neck, and place it in the center of the mandala. Raise a canopy of black silk. Arrange the outer and inner offerings neatly around the perimeter. For accomplishment and activity, it is also permissible to rely on just a glorious torma. Then, sit on a comfortable seat and, in the ritual arrangement, contemplate the meaning of the words and rely on the practice of the lineage of sight, such as forming boundaries and barriers. Especially during the actual stage of generation, exert your intelligence in explaining the meaning, like a staircase ascending to Akanishta (Ogmin). Here, the key points of the solitary practice of Heruka are: pacifying is mainly recitation, wrathful is mainly practice, and activity is mainly application. To illustrate the method of encompassing these three sections in one month, for example: ten days of recitation, ten days of practice, seven days of great practice, and three days of activity. Generally speaking, recitation for seven days, practice for twenty days, and activity for three days. First is recitation: visualize yourself as the Great Supreme Father and Mother, their bodies like rainbows, devoid of substantiality. At their heart, visualize the Wisdom Being Samantabhadra Father and Mother. At the very center of their hearts, visualize the seed syllables representing the three vajras of all Buddhas, and fix your awareness unwaveringly on them. Recite the three syllables, or if uncomfortable, recite them in a whisper, so that the three purifications of arising, abiding, and ceasing of breath become accustomed to the mantra from the beginning, and at the same time, light radiates from it, illuminating the ordinary.

of appearance and attachment, like clouds and vapors clearing away, purifying in its own place. In the state of indivisible space and awareness, cultivate the radiance of the view. Those who wish to become accustomed to the supreme realization and to receive blessings should practice only this. This is the great common ancestor of all Buddhas. Therefore, one may meditate and supplicate any of the peaceful and wrathful forms, the hundred families, the five families, or the one family. By accomplishing one, all are accomplished. The second, the accomplishment, is as follows: In the heart of Kuntuzangpo and Kuntuzangmo, on a lotus and sun seat, visualize a golden nine-pronged vajra standing upright. In the empty space within the central thick prong, visualize the seed-syllable Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) of the Dhyani-sattva, blue in color, radiating five-colored light. From the prong directly in front of the Hūṃ, in the empty spaces of each of the eight prongs in order, visualize the letters Oṃ (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), Guru (藏文:གུ་རུ,梵文天城体:गुरु,梵文罗马拟音:guru,汉语字面意思: गुरु), Śrī (藏文:ཤྲཱི,梵文天城体:श्री,梵文罗马拟音:śrī,汉语字面意思:吉祥), Vajra (藏文:བཛྲ,梵文天城体:वज्र,梵文罗马拟音:vajra,汉语字面意思:金刚), Yaśa (藏文:ཡཀྵ,梵文天城体:यश,梵文罗马拟音:yaśa,汉语字面意思:名誉), Krodha (藏文:ཀྲོ་ཏ,梵文天城体:क्रोध,梵文罗马拟音:krodha,汉语字面意思:忿怒), Citta (藏文:ཙིཏྟ,梵文天城体:चित्त,梵文罗马拟音:citta,汉语字面意思:心), and Hūṃḥ (藏文:ཧཱུྃཿ,梵文天城体:हूँ,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), all blue and clear, like exquisitely painted, all facing the central prong's Hūṃ, and think of them as unbearable in their brilliance, like the rays of the rising sun. For a while, until the deity's clear appearance arises, there is no need to do radiating and gathering light, etc. If there is a skull cup image, then look at it intently, and alternately train in familiarizing yourself with it in your mind. When the clear appearance arises, it is called the "Doli" recitation. Starting from the letter Oṃ, from each letter, similar letters arise one by one, like one lamp multiplying into two, spontaneously. They become a garland of mantras, connected like a string of beads, emerging from the top of the jewel on the crown of the Wisdom-Sattva, entering from the father's mouth into the mother's mouth, passing through the form of the body, from the mother's secret space through the father's vajra jewel path, entering from the Wisdom-Sattva's union point, circling the Dhyani-sattva Hūṃ in the central prong, and contemplate the five elements dissolving into the Hūṃ, so that the life-force also blazes with even greater splendor. From that, light radiates, making all supports and supported as clear as lighting a lamp in a dark room. From front, back, above, and below, without any gaps, light radiates, and at the ends of the light, emanate offering goddesses, beautiful and pleasing, as numerous as dust particles. Offer the bliss-emptiness offering to the victorious ones of the ten directions together with their sons. Pray for empowerment, blessings, accomplishments, wisdom, and love.
