Talk Collection, Chapter Sixty-Six: The Discourse on Primordial Purity, the Treasury Endowed with Two Purities. Talk Collection, Chapter Sixty-Six: The Discourse on Primordial Purity, the Treasury Endowed with Two Purities. The Discourse on Primordial Purity, called the Treasury Endowed with Two Purities. Homage to the Primordial Buddha! To extract the thorn of existence, even the Hearers' Basket of Discourses is a great ship of liberation. To attain the state of omniscience, from whence does it arise? Therefore, I bow to the Bodhicitta! Among these, the Great Perfection's oral instructions, taking the result as the path, is the first truth. Transcending the sequential order of cause and effect, or the manner of abandonment and cultivation, it is therefore genuine, or pure, or the term "primordially pure" is translated as "originally pure" and taught. Among these, what is to be purified is, as stated in the Extensive Play Sutra: "The term 'ཀ་' (Tibetan, Devanagari: क, Romanized Sanskrit: ka, Literal Chinese meaning: ཀ་) refers to the ripening of the aspect of karma," thus the term arises. As such, the path truth associated with maturation is indeed the conventional truth. It is the meaning of being pure from the beginning. If taught through the door of synonyms, then "ཡང་" (Tibetan, Devanagari:, Romanized Sanskrit:, Literal Chinese meaning: ཡང་) is purified with emphasis, "རྣམ་པར་" (Tibetan, Devanagari:, Romanized Sanskrit:, Literal Chinese meaning: རྣམ་པར་) is pure in its own nature, and "གདོད་" (Tibetan, Devanagari:, Romanized Sanskrit:, Literal Chinese meaning: གདོད་) and "གཟོད་" (Tibetan, Devanagari:, Romanized Sanskrit:, Literal Chinese meaning: གཟོད་) refer to either earlier or later, meaning transcendence of the three times' elaborations. As also stated in the Praise of Names: "The one who realizes the three times and the timeless." Therefore, if the meaning of the term "primordial purity" is inverted, then genuineness, purity, and original purity are also inverted. As stated in the Compendium Sutra: "Being originally pure, how could sentient beings arise?" Thus, one would fail to grasp its intent. Therefore, when engaging with the meaning of words, ཀ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: क, Romanized Sanskrit: ka, Literal Chinese meaning: ཀ་) is the precursor. In the origin of speech, the first cause, in the totality of vowels and consonants, there are also ཨ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨ་) and ཀ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: क, Romanized Sanskrit: ka, Literal Chinese meaning: ཀ་). The nature of these two is the same, but their reverse aspects are different, thus having the meaning of no arising and no ceasing. As stated in the former: "ཨ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨ་) is the most supreme of all letters, it is a sacred letter of great meaning, arising from within, without birth, abandoning verbal expression, it is the most supreme cause of all speech." Therefore, the first of the vowels is the meaning of no birth, and the first of the consonants is the meaning of the cause of speech not ceasing, abiding in this. The truth of no arising and no ceasing, with the term "primordial purity," also fully encompasses the meaning of being endowed with two purities, and is taught as a topic that transcends the conditioned nature of the path truth.

Even in ordinary language, at the beginning of irrigating fields, one proclaims, "The source of water." Similarly, for those who speak fallacies without naming names, yet claim to be proponents of inherent existence, one says "ka ca," "ka ba," "ka blo mi bde ba," and so on. To those sectarianists who think they are different from the four major Buddhist schools, I have already combined the teachings of the Three Turnings of the Wheel of Dharma with the flower of words and the fruit of meaning, and instructed them with the weapon of the Vajra Splinters. Therefore, those of sharp faculties who understand the meaning thoroughly by examining the title of the scripture, that is the analytical meditation related to hearing and thinking. In order to experience the wisdom of meditation, I will now explain the key points of abiding meditation. The rigpa of Dzogchen is neither mind nor what arises from mind; it is not mixed with the five skandhas; it transcends the eight consciousness aggregates; for those who follow philosophical tenets, the non-affirming negation, affirming negation, and eight extremes of conceptual proliferation that are fabricated by the mind, and the subsequent rigpa after the dissipation of proliferation, transcends conditioned phenomena, and is primordially liberated, unconditioned. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "Liberation comes from seeing the truth; what is the use of seeing emptiness?" Although that is so, because one's faculties are not sharp and one has not had prior training, one cannot understand this meaning. If one thinks, "I will meditate," that is mind; the fifty mental factors are what arise from mind. The object of the intellect is the form skandha, experiencing its taste is the feeling skandha, mistaking speculation for the Middle Way and making subtle distinctions is the perception skandha, the accumulation of imprints is the formation skandha, and the essence of all is the consciousness skandha. Because these are related to objects and subjects, the six aggregates of consciousness arise. Therefore, through the distraction of analyzing with understanding, and the analytical meditation deceived by experience, those who practice the preliminary practices like children will not surpass the proximity attainment and the actual practice of the first dhyana. Shantideva, who saw the nature of reality, said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "If one analyzes with analysis, then that analysis is again analysis, analysis upon analysis, and ultimately there is no cessation. When what is to be analyzed has been analyzed, analysis has no basis; because there is no basis, it does not arise; this is said to be nirvana." Thus it is said, rely on conventions.
