Degradation. Even within wrong livelihood, this itself is very powerful. There are three types of single seat, namely the edge of the seat. A single seat refers to whatever food is eaten. Having risen from that seat, on that very day, one does not eat food suitable for the season. A single seat at the edge of water, after eating and rinsing the mouth, even if one has not risen from the seat after taking water for washing hands, one does not eat food suitable for the season on that day. A single seat at the end of food, having swallowed the last mouthful, having stopped eating, and not having risen from the seat, even if one has not taken water for washing hands, it is the same as before. One does not continue to eat the remaining food, and as long as one has not had enough to sustain oneself, one does not eat, and having eaten enough, one should not take even a little bit more afterwards. If distinguished, there are simultaneous and accumulative types. The first is before eating, one may also drink, giving and receiving only once. The meaning of the second is that rice, vegetables, yogurt, etc., are given and received sequentially, and after eating and stopping eating, one does not continue to eat afterwards. The three Dharma robes are the sewn cloak and upper garment, and the lower skirt, even if one vows to have more than this or the same necessities, the three Dharma robes will not be damaged by using cushions and coverings, as well as face cloths and large summer cloths, this is said from the teachings on the merits of learning. A felt-maker, other than sheep's wool, silk etc. cannot be used as materials for clothing. Of the two hand towels, the abandoned one is, pieces of cloth found from the marketplace etc., washed, sewn and changed in color to be worn. A hand towel used to mark the seasons, after being used by others for more than four months, becomes worn out, and is made and worn as before. A monastery dweller is far from the village, extending for a distance of five hundred bow-lengths, contemplating the meaning of the Four Noble Truths in solitude. A tree-dweller is like the fame of Dharma, relying on trees that can only shelter from wind and rain. One without a roof, the roof is the sky, from the sound of no cover, one is free from lightning. A charnel ground dweller has two types, called one who possesses all charnel grounds, that is, all dwellings, food, clothing, utensils, implements, etc., rely on charnel ground items. Called one who possesses some charnel grounds, that is, discarding the five foods of the dead in the charnel ground, or washing the clothes of the corpse to make them usable, or making a bowl from the skull of the dead, or in the charnel ground

Staying without support on one's own, etc., is to use any part. There are three types of squatters: large, medium, and small. The first is to avoid wearing out the Dharma robes, so slightly relying on the front, back, left, right, etc., of the nine places, squatting without support. The medium one, even if leaning against a wall, avoids relying on the left and right sides. The small one, even if slightly relying on the chest, etc., never puts the head on a pillow. The basis as it is, a mat of grass or leaves, placing the dwelling on top of it, is also to avoid changing it again and again after laying it down once, and strive to avoid attachment to the dwelling. Thus, there are three types of reliance on food, and similarly, three types of reliance on clothing. Reliance on conduct is one, and reliance on dwelling is five. These twelve qualities of asceticism abandon desire and attachment, abide in pure conduct, and make the mind gentle and workable, hence they are called the qualities of asceticism. In short, a monk who has taken full ordination for a hundred years and a newly ordained monk, in order to achieve the same reason for discipline, the Khenpo and the Acharya, who possess the four limbs of being virtuous, stable, wise, and beneficial, should be approached and asked to perform the duties. Among them, the limb of being virtuous is: not being defiled by defeat, the form of discipline that is not lax, and not being defiled by blameworthy non-virtue. The limb of being stable is: having taken full ordination for ten years, the vows are stable. The limb of being wise is: knowing the Vinaya Pitaka. If these three are complete, the Khenpo and Acharya can be done, and the three qualities of being able to live freely are explained. The limb of being beneficial is: having compassion and patience, having pure inner retinue, benefiting both Dharma and wealth, being diligent, having similar views, being good at speaking, understanding the meaning, and abiding in one's nature. The latter, the body abiding, is abiding in one's nature. Thus, the twelve are mostly easy to understand, but the mind not abiding in its nature is madness. If such a person acts as a Khenpo, then the one to be tamed will generate faults, and similarly, the inferior body means generating downfall such as carrying wool. Similarly, living in another place means abandoning the conduct of the Khenpo and others, special ones. Those who have taken full ordination for ten years, but do not know the Vinaya Pitaka, are the teachers of the place.
