Having abandoned wealth and all external things, one falls again into the bondage of samsara. 54. Whatever the fall, whether equal or unequal, the manner of involuntarily wandering in the six realms, like a drunken elephant controlled by a hook, one goes on many paths continuously. 55. Especially those bound by the noose of Yama, on the unbearable ground of hellfire and burning iron, pierced and scattered by sharp weapons, scattered by gusts of wind, bodies stiffened, blisters burst, marrow drips. 56. Starving and exhausted from eating many measures of food, even the direction of drink is not near; for them, even the water of the ocean, if they wish to drink freely, will dry up their throats, threatened by the four perverted views. 57. Like being suppressed by the punishment of ignorance and abandonment of refuge, they devour each other, unable to find peace even for a moment. Chased by hunters and outcasts, they are finally bound, enduring torment in both body and mind, unwillingly. 58. The mind burned by the sharp flames of jealousy, like suffering on the battlefield, when the enemy's weapon cuts off his head, the moment his wife sees it, she cries out in anguish, like Rahu in terror. 59. Even though one indulges in objects that are like poison in every way, one is still led to the other shore by the poison of birth, old age, sickness, and death. The maturation of poison that cannot be cured by medicine or mantras, even in future lives, will be cut off; the power of poison is very great. 60. Therefore, having understood karma and its results, like the patterns of water, earth, and stone, for those afflicted by afflictions, first engage in virtue, and finally accomplish it with the craftsmanship of wisdom. 61. Have faith in the Three Jewels and correct views, observe the precepts, abandon the path of the ten non-virtues, make offerings and benefit beings, give generously to the field of merit, listen to the Dharma of liberation and omniscience. 62. Possessing shame for one's own misdeeds and embarrassment for the misdeeds of others, and the wisdom to discern the truth of the Dharma, strive to accomplish these seven noble riches. 63. In order to attain nirvana in a higher realm, from a lama who possesses knowledge and discipline, properly apply the mind and understand the essence of the two correct views of what should be done and what should not be done. 64. Those minds that are objects of the six senses, if they are under the control of the eight consciousnesses, then, the proximate afflictions

From the battlefield of twenty afflictions, raise the banner of remembrance, the victorious enemy's strategy. 65 Merely liberating oneself is also present in Hearers and Solitary Realizers. Accomplishing omniscience is the way of great beings. Starting from the establishment of mindfulness, may you realize the immeasurable aspects of the path to enlightenment. 66 Non-existent formations, merely imputed phenomena. Possessing afflictive and cognitive obscurations, with what is abandoned by seeing and what is abandoned by meditation. When pacified in the state of no self-nature, the Dharma-nature of the Sugata-essence will be seen. 67 Having seen thus, becoming a vessel of many harms. The source of birth, the Dharma of dependent origination. Together with the fourteen unrevealed co-emergences, obtain cessation through the eightfold noble path. 68 Its nature, the river of afflictions. Having crossed to the other shore, one is oneself, a treasure of qualities in the field of those to be tamed. Use the lamp of the complete teachings in that direction. 69 In the place of manifestly spreading the meaning of the Dharma, bestow the merit of the unfading lotus garden of faith. Having become a brother free from sorrow, you also become a son of the Lord of Virtue. 70 To the one called the Lord of the Moon, with my bodhicitta and, may wishes be well protected like the power of loving-kindness, may the kingdom be manifestly high and auspicious! 61 A letter sent to Sakya (Sa skya, 1073-1348) Dege (sde dge), called "Ear Ornaments for the Earth's Use."
