The Fifth Chapter, the Collection of the Four Great Wheels. The Fifth Chapter, the Collection of the Four Great Wheels. Relies on places of disharmony, and gains merit from approaching virtuous individuals. With good wishes, merit, and seeking refuge, 125, the Dragon King calls them the Four Great Wheels. In the midst of crowds, like poisonous food, the changes of place and circumstance are extremely intense. Distancing oneself from those, one inclines to solitude and peace. 126, not clinging to gains, like the wind and the sky. Like a wild animal dwelling in seclusion, one is not disturbed by reckless behavior. Relying on the foundation to protect others, 127, jealousy and patience diminish courage. The mind is like a very stiff cat, walking peacefully, with measured conduct. A place where one relies comfortably on evil friends, 128, even if prosperous, one immediately declines from the Dharma. The swiftly moving sun and moon are friends with all, intimacy and original dwelling are tormented by anger. A new and gentle place, 129, seeing all beings become friends. Even if making noise like sentient beings, the mind follows the good or bad of speech. Not a practitioner, like a rock, 130, one with bad conduct lacks the vows of the place. Equal to virtuous individuals, conduct and meditation are of one mind. Before reaching steadfastness, 131, one is distinguished by high and low depending on place and friends. The teacher creates merit for others with key points, even possessing wealth, one does not lose asceticism. Like a wish-fulfilling jewel for those who beg, 132, only harmonious alms. Life is extremely impure, stealing by means. Seeking gain with gain, falsely flattering, and the five wrong livelihoods measured by gain, 133, defile the asceticism of the upright. Therefore, a good dwelling and a good life, good friends and good speech inspire courage. In order to perfect the qualities of all trainings, I will rely on virtuous individuals. Just as in the forests of the Malaya Mountains, even an ordinary log wandering about, like sandalwood with moist branches emitting fragrance, whoever one relies on, one follows. Completing all the sacred Dharma.

In short, although it is difficult to find someone due to the power of the degenerate age, one whose mind is moistened by great learning and compassion on the pure ground of the three vows' essential restrictions, who is skilled in the rituals of the ocean of scriptures and tantras, who is rich with the fruit of stainless wisdom of abandonment and realization, whose flowers of the four means of gathering are beautifully blooming, and who relies on gathering the bees of fortunate disciples. In particular, the lama who shows the essential instructions is one who has received empowerment, abides by vows, and is extremely peaceful, who understands the meaning of the continuum of the ground, path, and fruit, whose own mind is liberated by the completion of approach and accomplishment, signs, and realization, who only seeks the benefit of others with immeasurable compassion, who has few activities and diligently focuses on the Dharma, who has great renunciation and also encourages others to do so, who is skilled in means and possesses the blessings of the lineage. Relying on such a one, attainment is swift. Like a Brahmin, protecting one's lineage, or in a pond where there is doubt that the dwelling place will deteriorate, one enters a bath that is not a place for the fruit of learning and contemplation. Like a guide who is like a self-grinding wooden mill, although not contradicting the nature of individual beings, one applies it to a place of haphazardness with the faith of a fool, filled with offerings of gain and respect. A spiritual friend who is like a well's hand-operated wheel, who has little learning and whose vows and commitments are broken, whose lineage is low and whose conduct goes to the ground, who has cut off the rope of love and compassion, increases sin more than a mad guide. In particular, if one is not superior to oneself in qualities, and relies on the power of fame devoid of bodhicitta, it is a great mistake like a blind leader, and one will wander in the darkness of hypocritical association. Therefore, if one does not thoroughly examine the holy ones, the accumulation of merit of the faithful will be wasted, and the one-time opportunity of leisure will be deceived like a magical illusion, and one will be deceived like the shadow of a tree. The lama who possesses all qualities is the essence of the wisdom and compassion of all Buddhas, who comes in the form of a person to the realm of those to be tamed, and is the unsurpassed root of all attainments. In terms of provisional meaning, he is in harmony with all, but in terms of ultimate meaning, he contradicts all distinctions. Because he has profound intention, he is superior to all. He is skilled at cutting doubts and endures the weariness of wrong practices. From the ocean of existence, by destroying the fire of karma and afflictions, he pours down the rain of nectar, and by dispelling the darkness of ignorance, he is like the sun and moon. His vehicle is extremely great, like the earth.
