The Collection of Four Immeasurables, Commentary on the Seventh Chapter. The Collection of Four Immeasurables, Commentary on the Seventh Chapter. Having thus taken refuge, in order to initially distinguish the characteristics for entering the actual path of the Mahayana. In the pond of the Lesser Vehicle, the realm of the Bodhi-mind, the mind of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers who have declined from their lineage, awakened by the power of the helmsman of emptiness and compassion, goes to the ocean of the Great Vehicle, the island of omniscience. There, seeing all existence as a pit of fire, driven by the desire to attain liberation from suffering and afflictions, the path of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers only has the peace of liberation that does not revert like the bliss and glory of the heavens from the path of the three trainings. However, since the aspect of exhausting faults and attaining qualities is only a one-sided expectation, even one's own benefit is not ultimately fulfilled. What need is there to mention the accomplishment of the great purpose of others? For this reason, the path of the Lesser Vehicle does not turn towards the furrow of benefiting others, but in the embrace of peace like a pond or a small stream, the power of the Bodhi-mind diminishes. In the end, it is necessary to awaken the lineage of entering the Great Vehicle by the Buddhas. Therefore, the entrance to the path of those with intelligence is only the Great Vehicle, as it is said in the Compendium of Perfections: "The two vehicles that are powerless to accomplish the purpose of the world should be abandoned forever, and those who enter the compassionate teachings of the Victorious One's Great Vehicle are of the nature of benefiting others with one taste." So it is. What is the reason? Focusing only on one's own benefit is a practice common even to extremely ignorant animals, while the conduct of a great person is to be solely devoted to the benefit and happiness of other sentient beings. As the teacher Chandra Gomi said: "Even animals eat some easily found grass, and if they are tormented by extreme thirst, they happily drink when they find water. Here, whoever strives to benefit others, that is the adornment here, that is happiness, that is the supreme talent of a great person." Thus, the happiness, majesty, and the powerful nature of the talents of a great person should become a means of taking on the burden of others. He also said: "The world is confused by the thick clouds of ignorance, and beings are bewildered."

Seeing beings helplessly falling into the blazing fire of suffering, and being as anxious and diligent as if a great fire were spreading on one's head, these are the true men, and these are the wise ones. As it is said. The essence of the five perfections, such as generosity, is like iron ore that has not been indicated by scriptural authority. Completely decayed, it is coated with the alchemy of skillful means and wisdom, creating great value in the absence of anything. Like this, the five aspects of skillful means, such as generosity, are like iron ore of the Great Vehicle that has not been indicated by scriptural authority when it is not grasped by the perfection of wisdom. It is coated with the alchemy of the union of the mind of enlightenment, the chief of the skillful means of the Great Vehicle, and emptiness, the chief of wisdom, which is the non-erroneous cause of Buddhahood. From the perspective of entry, there are two teachings: the Great Vehicle of the perfections and the Great Vehicle of secret mantra. In either case, when the mind of enlightenment arises in the continuum, then one is a person of the Great Vehicle. Without it, whatever qualities one may have, such as meditating on emptiness, upholding morality, and having stable pride in deity appearance, are inferior paths, and contradict the Great Vehicle. Therefore, it is not enough for the Dharma to be the Great Vehicle; it is important for the continuum of the person to transform into the Great Vehicle, so do not merely cultivate the mind of enlightenment verbally. As it is said in the Gandavyuha Sutra: "Son of good family, the mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddha's teachings." Therefore, because the mind of enlightenment, which is the union of the skillful means of compassion and the wisdom of emptiness, arises from the practitioner of the four immeasurables, the two aspects of aspiration and action, and the precepts. Among them, the characteristic of compassion preventing falling into the extreme of peace, and wisdom preventing falling into the extreme of existence, is the bodhisattva path. As Vimalamitra said: "With wisdom, one does not abide in existence; with compassion, one does not abide in peace; one does not abide in nirvana and samsara." Therefore, without the mind of enlightenment that unites these two, just as a bird with one broken wing cannot fly, one cannot cut through the path. As it is said in the Doha Treasury: Compassion and
