The Eight Verses on Training the Mind in the Great Vehicle. The Eight Verses on Training the Mind in the Great Vehicle. The Eight Verses on Training the Mind in the Great Vehicle. Homage to the virtuous friend of the Great Vehicle. In general, Lord Atisha had seventy-two teachers from whom he heard the Mantras and Paramitas. In particular, there were three teachers who taught the mind of enlightenment. The Yogi of Maitreya, Dharma Rakshita, and Serlingpa. It is said that among them, the reason for respecting Lama Serlingpa is that other Lamas do not have stupas, but Serlingpa has a stupa with a silver umbrella. Other Lamas do not have monthly offerings, but Serlingpa has monthly offerings. Other Lamas only hear the name and put their palms together at their hearts, but when they hear the name of the incomparable Serlingpa, they put their palms together on their heads. Other Lamas do not shed tears when they remember, but it is said that tears come when they remember Lama Serlingpa. Atisha had many Lamas, what is the reason for respecting Serlingpa so much? Lord Atisha said: This mind of enlightenment that exchanges self and others did not come from anyone other than Lama Serlingpa. If we take Lama Serlingpa as the source of the lineage, then it is: Perfectly Complete Buddha, Lord Maitreya, Asanga, Vasubandhu, Arya Vimuktisena, Bhikshu Vimuktisena, he gave it to Shresthasena, he gave it to Vinayasena, he gave it to Abbot Samantabhadra, he gave it to Simhabhadra, he gave it to Ratnakara, he gave it to Lama Serlingpa, he gave it to Palden Atisha, he gave it to Geshe Dromtönpa, he gave it to the three brothers. In particular, it was given to Chennga-wa. He gave it to Langtangpa and Shapogangpa. Langtangpa gave it to Zhangzhung and Lugur. The two of them later gave it to Lord Atisha. He gave it to Lungnangwa Khenpo Rinpoche. He gave it to the teacher Drakton Sherab Rinpoche, the master of the teachings, the teacher Yönten Samten. He gave it to Buddha Ratna. He gave it to Kirtishila. He gave it to the one with the name of the Victorious One. He gave it to Pundaratta. He gave it to Zhönnu Gyalchok. Up to here is the order of the Lama lineage. It is said that they all attained accomplishment and arose with special realization by relying on this Dharma. The so-called Great Vehicle Mind Training is generally taught in all the teachings of the Tripitaka. In particular, the Bodhisattva

From the chapter on meditation in Entering the Bodhisattva's Way, it says: "Even if oneself has faults, one should regard others as an ocean of virtues, completely abandon self-grasping, and also practice accomplishing the benefit of others." It is said. To summarize the meaning of these verses completely, in general, the cause of wandering in samsara is the eighty-four thousand afflictions. If these are condensed, there are six. The root afflictions or the twenty secondary afflictions. The root of these is self-grasping, which is to grasp at a single thing that has no inherent existence as "I," and then to argue and debate for it. In this life, virtuous actions turn into non-virtuous actions, and non-virtuous actions turn into suffering, because one argues and debates with oneself. If one does not abandon self-grasping from now on, one will wander in the same way as before, and one will suffer in the three times of past, present, and future. There is no doubt that what causes us suffering is the self-cherishing demon, the "I" and "mine." This is because we argue and debate with it. None of what is seen, heard, and thought is put into practice. Because in samsara, nothing that has been experienced in the past has been gone for long, so whatever is good now, let go and do it, and if it feels good, let go and do it. Whether it is oneself or others, one should let go and do it. Relax, release, and let go. Completely destroy it and let go. Sentient beings are not just anyone, they are all kind parents, so one should take away the sins of sentient beings at the time of cause and the suffering at the time of result, like scraping leather with a razor, and visualize them ripening completely on one's own body. Visualize one's own happiness and virtue ripening on sentient beings. These two should be practiced alternately. One should also wholeheartedly accept the roots of virtue of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and visualize them ripening on sentient beings. It is said that this is the meaning of the Great Vehicle mind training. Khenpo said that mind training is to belittle oneself and respect sentient beings. To belittle oneself is because from beginningless time, what causes us suffering is the self-cherishing demon. Therefore, it is said that even if one has to destroy, one should destroy this root. One should dedicate oneself to meaningful things. To respect sentient beings is because these sentient beings of the three realms of samsara are not just anyone, they are all kind parents.
