If there is elaboration, it is not enlightenment; when there is no elaboration, it is enlightenment. Then, Free from Sorrow said: Alas! Son of the Victorious One, the way you speak and the way I desire are not the same. Is elaboration not a Bodhisattva? Is the Dharma without elaboration enlightenment? The monk Without Sorrow said: Alas! Virtuous friend, we two should go to where the Bhagavan is and ask to dispel our doubts. Having said this, the two monks together rose into the sky like the king of swans and went to where the Bhagavan, the King of Bliss, was. Having arrived, they bowed their heads to the feet of the Bhagavan and sat down on one side. Then, the monk Free from Sorrow told the Bhagavan everything he had said before. Then, the Bhagavan, the King of Bliss, praised the monk Without Sorrow, saying: Well done! Well done! And gave his approval. The Bhagavan said to Free from Sorrow: Free from Sorrow, listen! What the venerable Without Sorrow said is true, if there is any elaboration, it is not enlightenment; if there is no elaboration, it is the path to enlightenment. Why is that? Because being free from all elaborations is called enlightenment. How is it that one is free from all elaborations? Because one is separate from everything, the mind is called free from elaboration. Free from Sorrow, the aggregate of form is elaboration. Similarly, the aggregates of feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also elaborations. The aggregate of discipline, similarly, the aggregate of concentration, the aggregate of wisdom, and the wisdom of liberation are free from elaboration. The twelve qualities of training, asceticism, contentment, and dwelling at the edge are also elaborations. Where do these elaborations come from? They come from the mind of conception and discrimination. What is discrimination? It is form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. The aggregate of discipline, concentration, wisdom, having few desires, contentment, and the qualities of training do not exist. There is no Buddha in discrimination. Knowing this,

The very wisdom of knowing is emptiness. In that emptiness, there is no concept of oneness or otherness. This is called Bodhi. At that time, the Bhagavan spoke these verses: The lamp of the Buddha appears in the world, and it is difficult to encounter even in countless kalpas. Like the Udumbara flower, it appears only occasionally after hundreds of turns. Even after generating the supreme mind of Bodhi, a yogi who diligently practices on the path to Buddhahood, such a great Bodhisattva is extremely difficult to appear in the world and be encountered. If someone clings to form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, and holds onto dualistic dharmas, they will be tightly bound by illusion. Neither existent, nor nonexistent, nor both. The wise, through fully understanding this, realize that the wisdom of the Victorious Ones arises, and they touch the supreme essence of Bodhi. Therefore, the monk Ashoka, by hearing these teachings, realized the essence of Bodhi. At that time, the two monks practiced yoga for eighty thousand years, and during those eighty thousand years, they did not generate thoughts of desire, hatred, or ignorance. After those two Bodhisattvas passed away there, they were born in the Akanistha realm. After encountering one million six hundred thousand Buddhas, they renounced in the teachings of those Buddhas, and as before, they diligently practiced yoga, and ultimately attained the state of the noble Ashoka, becoming the first Buddha. His name was Tathagata Moon Banner. The Bodhisattva Ashoka was slightly later, and in the Buddha-field called "Pearl Light," he became the wheel of the Tathagata's teacher. If you think that the noble Ashoka is someone else, do not view it that way. At that time, at that time, the Licchavi youth whom all the world delighted to see was none other than him. If you think that Ashoka is someone else, do not view it that way. He is none other than the Bodhisattva Lotus Hand. After the Bhagavan spoke thus, this is the story of the birth of the Bodhisattva Ashoka, the twenty-fourth chapter. The twenty-fourth chapter, the story of the birth of the Bodhisattva Ashoka.
