Nirvana-free (mya ngan med pa) said: "I jumped from the top of the building. The iron hook of the Bhagavan's compassion hooked me well, and my body was not harmed. I came before the Bhagavan." After saying this, Nirvana-free said: "They exchanged joyful words." Then, Sorrowless (mya ngan dang bral ba) offered precious clothes and pearl shoes to the Bhagavan and spoke the verses: "We have seen the Bhagavan, the departed one. Formerly, I walked the wrong path. Now I praise the Buddha, I walk the right path." Then, Nirvana-free spoke the verses: "Whoever does not spare body and life, like you embarking on the path, that is beneficial to me. Sentient beings do not understand the meaning of the other shore. I do not spare body and life, even if I experience many sufferings, I am willing. For the benefit and happiness of sentient beings, I will liberate all the torments of suffering. Because seeing the Buddha is the path, there is no need to seek others. Even if a fool walks the right path, he will fall into the wrong path. Because sentient beings dwell on the wrong path, they see the right path as wrong. Bound by the demon and attached to it, they will be separated from the right path. I always see the Bhagavan, and after seeing him, may I be ordained. May I always purify the pure conduct, and may I liberate sentient beings in all lives. May I always abide in virtuous Dharma, and may I hold the treasures of the Buddha's teachings. Whenever I blow the Dharma conch in times of strife, raise the Dharma banner, and beat the Dharma drum, may I obtain the great meaning of benefiting sentient beings. May I always generate diligent effort, and may I understand the meaning of the Dharma as soon as I see it. May I always abide in samadhi, and may I obtain the qualities and rank and become a virtuous person." At that time, Prince Nirvana-free spoke these words. Then, the two princes renounced their homes and became homeless, practicing yoga in the mango grove of Vaishali (yangs pa can), cultivating love for each other. Then, Nirvana-free said: "Sorrowless, what kind of practice do you practice, wanting to attain Buddhahood first?" Sorrowless said: "The Bodhicitta I have generated is for the sake of each and every sentient being, even if I experience the suffering of hell for millions of kalpas, I am willing."

There is no regret. Until the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, I will meditate like that. Furthermore, I will abide greatly in patience. For example, if a person from the east carries a pot of unclean, foul-smelling vomit and places it on my head and bathes me, I will not generate hatred towards them. I will not look with hateful eyes. I will meditate on patience, seek Buddhahood, and generate the wisdom of the Buddhas. Thinking thus, I will meditate on compassion. Then, Mya-ngan-med-pa (a monk's name, meaning 'Without Sorrow') said: 'Mya-ngan-bral-ba (another monk's name, meaning 'Free from Sorrow'), who have you seen that is adorned with such a mind of awakening?' Mya-ngan-bral-ba said: 'If there is no such mind, there is no adornment; if there is no adornment, where is the path of meditation for a Bodhisattva? Therefore, it should be understood in that way. Because there is such a mind, the path of meditation for a Bodhisattva arises in the world.' Then, the monk Mya-ngan-med-pa said: 'Do not say that because there is that mind, there is adornment. Why is that? Because the mind is emptiness itself, like an illusion, arising and ceasing in a single instant. Thus, since emptiness is like an illusion, a phenomenon that arises and perishes in every instant is without characteristics. Mya-ngan-bral-ba, to whatever extent there is existence and non-existence, all of that is wrong view, a path of wrong views, and should not be called enlightenment. That is not the path of enlightenment; it is without hope. Therefore, it should be understood in this way. Whatever exists and does not exist is an elaboration of evil phenomena. The elaborated phenomena are not relied upon by a Bodhisattva. They should not be relied upon. How should the phenomena of a Bodhisattva be relied upon? The path that is separated from both existence and non-existence should be relied upon as being free from elaboration. Monk, you should become accustomed to that. You should realize it in that way.' Then, the monk Mya-ngan-bral-ba said: 'Monk, why is it that when the qualities of a Bodhisattva exist, you do not say they exist, and when they do not exist, you do not say they do not exist? Why do you make the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment unutterable and free from elaboration?' The monk Mya-ngan-med-pa said: 'Alas, virtuous friend, for enlightenment, one should not make the elaboration of existence, and one should not make the elaboration of non-existence. To whatever extent there is elaboration'
