Lacking food, they think of eating without sustaining their bodies with begged food and monastery food. They hope to obtain, hope to find, hope to acquire, but die of hunger and cold. Or they have never heard the sound of the Dharma, or even if they have heard it, they have no faith because they have no connection with lamas and the Sangha. Without benefiting from the Dharma, they are born in the intermediate state of existence (bardo) or in either of the two classes of pretas (hungry ghosts). They engage in sexual activity in illusory visions, day and night are reversed, they are tormented by cold, hunger, and thirst. The feeling of hunger and the thought of food are incessant. They constantly wander around doors and houses. Although they see food, drink, and wealth, they have no means to enjoy them. They are tormented by fear and hatred. Dead eyes stare at the living. Dead hands grasp at the living. Dead minds cling to the living. They run towards the sound of the conch shell. They gather in the distribution line. They hope for food and drink. They go to the place of distribution but have no share. They reach out their hands but are not seen by others. When they are not seen, hatred arises. The land appears as if darkness has fallen. The body remains like a shadow. They suffer from hail and blizzards. Blue turns black. Gray becomes withered. Yellow becomes rusty. The face is ugly. The voice is unpleasant. They hope for food. They suffer from thirst. They gather around bad tea dregs. They take snot and saliva. All these cravings for incense and torma are satisfied by this incense offering, which is the nectar of wisdom, transformed into a treasure of all needs and enjoyments, thus freeing them from attachment to food and drink. Without hope or attachment, remembering the deities and lamas, relying on faith and sincere prayers, may they quickly proceed to the pure realms. Even if this does not happen, you, the dead, are many, and we, the living, are few. Therefore, do not grieve for the dead, do not place great hopes on the living, do not be attached to possessions left behind, do not steal the essence of oily food, do not be proud of glittering wealth, do not cling to the ranks of relatives and friends. May you be satisfied by the nature of the nectar of the incense offering. Having been satisfied, may the victorious ones and their sons bless you so that the precious mind of enlightenment may arise in your being. The incense offering: Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:圆满), Ah (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आः,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:生起), Hum (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:降伏). Furthermore, may the monks and nuns who suffer from the degeneration of the degenerate age, relying on good wishes and protection from fear, whose signs are red and yellow, whose food always depends on the monastery, who are difficult to satisfy with their own food, and who rely on the food of others.

Relying on others, having power over the offerings of feasts, receiving offerings of faith, asking for butter in summer and grain in autumn, coming uninvited, insisting even when not needed, getting angry when not given, coming again next year if given this year, always relying on others. May all such beings who have died in the past, who exist now, and who will appear in the future, be satisfied and satiated with these incense offerings of wisdom nectar, and may they be free from all appearances of hunger and starvation. May they be easily sustained even by food the size of a needlepoint, and may they not feel pain even when seeing a mere glimpse of others' food. May their faces be radiant, their bellies full, and their minds content. May they constantly strive to purify obscurations through practice, and may they become objects of faith and aspiration. May all the local deities and earth lords, such as Nyenchen Thanglha, who hold sway over war and theft, causing one's own side to win and the other side to lose, come to this place with unobstructed and swift miraculous power. I, the yogi, bless this incense offering, the essence of nectar, with mantra, mudra, and samadhi. May it be like a wish-fulfilling jewel and a wish-fulfilling tree, possessing all desirable qualities, and may you enjoy inexhaustible pleasures for eons. May you develop good thoughts of benefit and happiness in your minds. In general, may you generate thoughts of impartiality, without attachment or aversion, towards all beings in the vast realms, and especially towards all beings residing in the three regions of Ma, Dza, and Mar. May everyone live together in great harmony with loving-kindness, beneficial intentions, and joyful hearts, and may all negative actions such as fighting and quarreling cease from this time forward. May all humans and non-humans be inspired to act in accordance with the Dharma, and I earnestly request you to diligently work towards this goal. May you not transgress the commands and vows of the great master of Oddiyana, Padmasambhava, and all the accomplished beings of the past. May you assist in governing the vast realm in accordance with the Dharma, and may you help to fulfill all the wishes of Padma Chöpel, the messenger of the king of Derge (Sde-dge, present-day Derge in Sichuan), without any obstacles. In particular, for those who are attached to the perception of attachment and aversion, and who cling to appearances as if dreams were real.
