The method of settling the mind through detailed differentiation of elements. The method of settling the mind through detailed differentiation of elements. To whom forever abandoned the mountain of pride, for the sake of the pride of beings, differentiated the elements, I prostrate to the one who proclaimed the nectar. For the sake of those with heavy pride, he explained. In summary: signs, benefits, knowable objects, collections, practice, holding measures, stages of arising, levels of abiding, means of reliance, and the generation of insight, there are ten in total. Among them, the sign refers to grasping the sign of a person with heavy pride. So, what are the signs of a person who employs pride? Here, a person who employs pride is one who, even for small things that are in accordance with pride, generates thick and numerous instances of pride. Then, what need is there to mention medium and large things? That which is entwined with pride also abides in the mind-stream for a long time; that which is entwined with pride also remains connected for a long time; it will be overwhelmed by the dharmas that are in accordance with pride, or it will not be able to be overwhelmed by the dharmas that are in accordance with pride; the senses are wild; the senses are as high as a lotus; the senses are arrogant; striving after the great adornment of the body; speaking harsh words and not yielding; not making offerings to parents, relatives, and teachers, etc., when the causes and conditions arise from time to time; arrogance; the body does not yield; speaking frankly; not prostrating; not standing in front; not joining palms; not being in a posture of yielding; clinging to self; praising oneself; slandering others; wanting to gain profit; wanting to gain respect; wanting to gain the sound of fame; becoming a vessel of greed; difficult to separate from; difficult to be weary of; liking vast things; small compassion; and having a strong view of self, sentient beings, life, nourishment, and personhood, being very angry and fierce, and being quarrelsome. Like this, those that are similar to it should be known as the various signs of a person employing pride. Thus it is said. Then the benefits.

If one enters to abandon arrogance, then lineage and body will be perfect, and the instructions of the lamas can also be obtained without difficulty. Therefore, all accumulations will be quickly accomplished, and the wisdom of omniscience will also be quickly attained. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by Noble Sagaramati: 'His body is completely pure, the body is well adorned with marks, the hands and feet are soft and supple, the body is extremely large in accordance with the cause of merit, the senses are complete, and all the limbs and parts are extremely perfect, but the body is not proud or arrogant because of its form, and it possesses the manner of a large body. He closely upholds the Dharma and bows down to all inferior beings and those with incomplete forms. It is said that he bows down extremely.' It is also said: 'Bhagavan, just as when there is a great ocean, it turns towards the lower side. For the sake of turning towards the lower side, all rivers, springs, and streams flow into it at that small time. Bhagavan, in the same way, a Bodhisattva without arrogance, who respects the lama and the place of giving, can also effortlessly make the doors of the profound Dharma resound in the ear faculty. That will also abide in mindfulness.' Thus it is said. Regarding this, it should be known that in brief there are two, namely number and essence. Among them, the number is six, namely the earth element, the water element, the fire element, the wind element, the space element, and the consciousness element. What is the inner earth element? Whatever it may be, the form of hardness and roughness inside this body, and what is near and held. What is that? For example, hair, body hair, nails, and so on. What is the inner water element? Whatever it may be, the form of water and water inside this body, and water itself, moisture and the form of moisture, and moisture itself, the liquid itself, and what is near and held. What is that? For example, tears, rheum, saliva, snot, serum, fat, bile, nasal mucus, pus, blood, milk, urine, and excrement.
