Ignorance is defined as being attached to the appearance of things as real, clinging to the perceived and the perceiver, and not understanding the five sciences, etc. The antidote to this is the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, such as the Noble Eightfold Path, as well as non-conceptual samadhi, the unique Madhyamaka path of the Mahayana, and being skilled in the path, such as the five sciences. As it says in the scripture, "Gradually eliminating and abiding on the bhumis." This shows the perfect result. The antidote mentioned above enables the elimination of the opposing forces—afflictions and cognitive obscurations—through the stages of seeing and cultivating the path, thereby obtaining the result of elimination. Abiding on the bhumis refers to the first bhumi of a bodhisattva, the Joyful, the second bhumi, the Immaculate, the third bhumi, the Luminous, the fourth bhumi, the Radiant, the fifth bhumi, the Very Difficult to Train, the sixth bhumi, the Manifest, the seventh bhumi, The Far-Reaching, the eighth bhumi, the Immovable, the ninth bhumi, the Good Intelligence, and the tenth bhumi, the Cloud of Dharma. The ten bhumis of a bodhisattva, as well as the noble Shravakas and Pratyekabuddha Sangha, the four pairs and eight individuals, are summarized by the seven bhumis: the White Pure Intention Bhumi, the Lineage Bhumi, the Eighth Bhumi, the Seeing Bhumi, the Thin Bhumi, the Bhumi Free from Desire, and the Bhumi of the Accomplished Awakened One. Thus, the ten bhumis of a bodhisattva, the seven bhumis of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and the perfection of abandonment and the perfection of wisdom, abiding in sequence, are the perfect result. The scripture says, "Acting for the benefit of sentient beings," which shows the perfection of benefiting others. The activity of the noble Sangha abiding on the bhumis in sequence is: through the doors of body, speech, and mind, solely accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings through various methods, and this is the perfection of benefiting others. The scripture says, "Purifying the Buddha-field," which shows the perfection of benefiting oneself. Thus, there are two types of Buddha-fields: the outer container world and the inner content world. Purifying them refers to the outer container world, such as alkaline land, tree stumps, and thorny plants, etc.

For the impure, accomplishing various precious jewels such as gold, as well as various merits such as Sukhavati and Lotus World, this is purifying the outer vessel world into a Buddha-field. Placing sentient beings suffering, who are gathered by the five types of beings, in happiness, placing those who dwell in the ten non-virtues in the ten virtues, placing the distracted in meditation and equipoise, placing those in samsara on the noble path and the fruit of the three enlightenments, taming one's own mind stream, why is it called purifying a Buddha-field? Because from taming one's own and others' mind streams, one accomplishes or is born as a Buddha, therefore it is called a Buddha-field, just as rice is born from a field. Here, the main focus is on taming one's own mind, and taming one's own mind is also accomplished by doing things for the benefit of others. The so-called "great noble Sangha" refers to the perfection of self-nature, that is to say, the self-nature of all noble Sangha, transcends the faults of karma and afflictions, as well as the suffering of the three and eight fruits of samsara, and so on. Such a gathering of many noble ones is called the Sangha. The term "great" also has two meanings, namely great in power and great in number. Among them, great in power means destroying all enemies such as the obscuration of afflictions and the obscuration of knowledge, and not being shaken by the hosts of the four maras such as the son of the gods, because they have become noble ones, therefore they are great in power. Because there are many noble ones residing, such as one thousand two hundred, they are great in number. Such is the self-nature of the Sangha, and in this way the Sangha Jewel is explained with five meanings. In this way, by focusing on the nature and qualities of the Three Jewels, and prostrating with joy and great faith, one can purify the two obscurations and obtain the three fruits. The Extensive Commentary on Buddha as the Main Subject, written by the Tibetan translator Zhang Yeshe De, is completed. Extensive Commentary on Buddha as the Main Subject, Yeshe De.
