One can measure other lands, A hermit can see the hungry ghosts. This is called a hermit. If slandered by evil people, One does not trust even the holy ones. If a child burns his mouth with milk, He blows on yogurt before drinking it. If buckets are connected with a rope, One will also be controlled by women. Whatever is begun first, That is very amazing. What is generally respected by the great, The lowly think of it as grass. The stupa revered by the wise, The crow uses it as a seat. The fruit of the Kataka tree, Though it separates water, By merely uttering its name, It does not separate water droplets. The holy do not make promises easily at first, If they make a promise with difficulty, Like drawing a picture on a stone, That promise will surely be fulfilled. When the lowly gain a little wealth, They have pride in despising others. Even if the holy gain wealth and prosperity, They are very humble like ripe rice stalks. There is no eye like wisdom, There is no darkness like ignorance. There is no enemy like disease, There is no fear like the Lord of Death. Therefore, for the extremely unpleasant, Death will surely occur, Turn your mind away from desires, Rejoice in the holy Dharma. For the virtuous, knowledge becomes virtue, For the non-virtuous, it becomes a fault. The water of a river, though very pure, Becomes undrinkable when it reaches the ocean. Even with discriminating wisdom, Actions should be accomplished through consultation. Then no faults will arise, Even if they arise, they can be immediately removed. Whoever is stable, gentle, and speaks little, People should be very cautious of him. Just as the sun emerges from thick clouds, Its rays become very hot. Though young in age, he delights in peace, Even if he becomes wise, he has no pride in knowledge. Even if his glory is great, he is patient and tolerant, He who conquers enemies is difficult to find. Wealthy barbarians also exist, Brave animals also exist. Those who speak various meaningful words, The holy ones are very rare. Wealth is fleeting, youth quickly decays, Life dwells between the teeth of the Lord of Death. Seeking happiness here, yet wanting to abandon the next life, That is like standing at the edge of a cliff.

Like a blind person. Whoever is afflicted with the disease of afflictions, Without relying on good medicine and the true Dharma, If one indulges in objects and acts carelessly, One will inevitably arise from the path of existence. If these beings, See the Lord of Death standing on their heads, Even delicious food will be repulsive, What need to mention other activities? Do not ask whether the task is finished or not, The Lord of Death will not rejoice because of it, Do tomorrow's work today, Do afternoon's work in the morning. The livelihood of the world is not stable, Wealth and leisure are not stable, Sons and wives are also not stable, Rely on Dharma, truth, and benefit. It is fine if the king lives long, It is fine if the ascetic dies early, It is not appropriate for the hunter to die or live, It is appropriate for the holy one to die or live. The Hundred Verses is completed, composed by the great Acharya Arya Shura. Translated and revised by the Indian Abbot Vinayachandra and the Tibetan translator Bhikshu Dharmamati.
