Treatise Called the Hundred Stanzas on Wisdom. By Nāgārjuna. Treatise Called the Hundred Stanzas on Wisdom. By Nāgārjuna. In Sanskrit: Prajñāśatika-nāma-prakaraṇa. In Tibetan: Treatise Called the Hundred Stanzas on Wisdom. Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī! Through what is well understood, People cultivate a hundred wisdoms? It is thoroughly explained as the great source Of the systems of treatises on meaning. Whatever things are seen By the wise from the treatises on meaning, Those are gathered here with many letters For the sake of fear. Few letters but many meanings, Adorned with various reasonings, This is a hundred stanzas, Called the Hundred Stanzas on Wisdom. This seen and unseen quality The root of all is wisdom. Thus, in order to accomplish both, Wisdom should be fully grasped. Dharma, meaning, desire, and liberation, The great source is intelligence. Therefore, first with respect, The great mother of wisdom should be grasped. Even if one who has wisdom is alone, Others will not harm him. Even if a small body has the means to discard, It is not despised because it has qualities. When the body is protected by wisdom, What can a host of enemies do? For one who has An umbrella in his hand, There is no dripping from the rain. One who is devoid of wisdom and skill Is only a slave to others. Like an elephant with a mountain-like body, One who has a body is like an appearance. For those who have opened the eye of wisdom, Decline will be completely destroyed, Just as for one who holds a lamp in his hand, There is no darkness in front. Perfection without wisdom Is like a heavenly descent. In an instant, those are gone. Those who are arrogant are like friends. When acting after careful consideration, What is not tame does not appear. For a body that eats what is wholesome, There is no interruption of disease. If there is danger, one's own benefit will increase, That is the wisdom of the wise. For a lake filled with water, Even those who travel in the sky rely on it. Whatever wealth is connected with danger, What is the use of that? Who would touch A jewel on the head of a snake? Things that are to be accomplished for one's own benefit Should not be accomplished by careless action. Because of the extremely cruel snake, It appears that one is ruined without accomplishing the purpose.

All that needs to be accomplished, accomplish with careful action. Like a worm-eaten body, though drinking blood, it is not seen. Wishing to establish oneself firmly, strive to benefit others. If you do not practice the means of establishing yourself, how can a practitioner succeed? Even if you wish to destroy others, you must possess virtues yourself. If a bow has no string, where will the arrow go? Speak frankly and without concealment, and act as you speak, Those who possess these four qualities live in happiness. The actions of virtuous people cannot be harmed by the wicked. When a precious lamp is burning, a gathering of scattered winds cannot extinguish it. Even a wealthy person, if they fall into a bad situation, Like a fire in a cemetery, fear arises from the guidance of bad friends. Do not trust the flattering words of the deceitful without careful examination by the wise. Like a peacock whose beautiful sound proclaims, But eats great poison as food. The wise one who, even to an enemy, Acts as if befriending them, like the ocean, is not disturbed, And the wicked cannot take away their warmth. Therefore, one should have an upright view, Be mindful and without anger, diligent, steadfast, and not distracted, For such a person, the glorious protector is always near. Whoever does not expect a return, But is happy to give, that person, like a wise person of renown, Is adorned with fame in this world. Whoever subdues the senses like slaves, And acts in accordance with their commands, like the great ocean filled with jewels, For them, all desires are perfectly fulfilled. Do not do what should not be done, Be skilled in arranging affairs, and moderate your desires for worldly things, Who would not respect such a wise person? Though possessing power and ability, Do not abandon the teachings of reason. Even the best of bows, Without a string, what can it do to aim at a target? The deceitful words of the deceitful, If not carefully examined by the wise, are like a fawn that has not understood the meaning of a song, And will be destroyed by others. The wise should always treat their enemies with gentleness, Like a soft vine that wraps around a tree, eventually climbing to the top. With just a doubt in one's heart,
