Establishment of the Afterlife. Dharma Superior. Establishment of the Afterlife. Dharma Superior. In Sanskrit: Paraloka Siddha. In Tibetan: Establishment of the Afterlife. Homage to youthful Manjushri! Some say that before birth and after death, there is a consciousness with the characteristic of explaining continuity, which exists in the afterlife. But that is not a correct statement. Because, if consciousness is not other than the body's four great elements, then consciousness cannot be separated from the body's four great elements, and this is not directly visible. If consciousness is not other than the body that has a beginning and an end, then how can consciousness be uninterrupted, or become a continuous stream without end? If it is other, then consciousness initially obtains a body from the four great elements, and later, as the continuum of the nature of the previous consciousness, it will perish after a short time. Or, if the gate of consciousness's arising is always consciousness, then because the son's wisdom surpasses the mother's wisdom, the afterlife is not established. A response to this should be given: For the time being, due to the attachment that denies the afterlife, the initial statement that consciousness is not other than the body that is the nature of the aggregation of the four great elements is unreasonable. Because, for you, the established sense consciousness itself is not related to various different feelings such as pleasure and pain, and the appearance of external objects such as form is not experienced as having various distinctions such as calmness and uncalmness. Because, experience is the attachment of the basis of what is born from experience, experience itself is the object of experience, and here, experience is established through the subsequent experience of experience. Since the appearing forms and so on are not necessarily the nature of feelings such as pleasure, the awareness of calmness and uncalmness is different from them when experiencing forms and so on. Any feeling of calmness and so on that is separated from what is held is experienced through the consciousness that follows the experience.

It is certain that it is the object of grasping. Therefore, it is the grasper. Therefore, how is consciousness different from the appearance of form, etc.? Similarly, the consciousness that has become the grasper is also different from the body. For example, when consciousness based on the senses arises with the distinction of grasping the palm, worldly people are not certain that the nature of the palm is the nature of happiness or suffering, but only the opposite nature. Therefore, at the time of knowing the palm, the consciousness of any certainty that experiences calmness and non-calmness apart from the palm, etc., is established by experiencing them as different. Therefore, it is harmful to say that the body is the mind itself, or that sentient beings arise like the power of alcohol, which is established by direct perception. Also, just as the first moment of billowing smoke obtains birth from fire, and other moments obtain birth only from one's own continuum, so too, it is extremely unreasonable to say that the nature of consciousness is first obtained from the great elements, and later arises only from one's own kind. For example, there are two kinds of fruit manifestation: some obtain birth from the continuous cause in the first moment, and for a short time depend on other moments of their own kind and remain as entities of birth, like the appearance of smoke, etc. Some causal objects actually cause the fruit to exist for a moment, but they arise for the sake of producing other moments. Therefore, from the difference of causes, a fruit with a slight continuity will arise. Some manifestations of fruit depend on the assembly of similar kinds in each moment and grow, such as the burning of a lamp or the consciousness of a person, etc. In the act of producing them, just as the first moment depends on the proximity of fire and heart, eye and appearance, and attention, so do the second moment, etc. Among those who are so close, if any one of them is destroyed or
