A Verse on Examining Exclusion of Others by Geshe Tsultrim. A Verse on Examining Exclusion of Others. Geshe Tsultrim. In Indian language: Anyapoha-vicara-karika. In Tibetan language: A Verse on Examining Exclusion of Others. Homage to the All-Knowing! Therefore, for distinct natures, because of seeing similar results etc., attaching with a mind to one, engaging extensively in various terms. Those that are always at one time, doing one thing of purpose, those are expressed as a collection sound, like houses, armies, and forest gatherings. Those that produce one result, by time and conceptualization, those should be expressed as a class sound, for example, happiness and suffering etc. Those that are successively connected, arising, functioning, and enduring, those should be expressed as a continuum sound, like continuums and self-made continuums. Being one and suitable for many, after mentally discriminating, particular distinctions should be shown, like place, birth, and destruction. Whatever is a single object with an object, like the sound of the sun, moon, and sky. For lip, time, part distinctions, that also applies without distinction. Whatever is the sound of a thing there like that, for non-things, whatever there are, those, not relying on external objects, express meaning by mentally discriminating. If the meaning of a sound in consciousness, does not appear as its own characteristic, for that which is not apparent, where is there certainty? Thus, distinctions are meaningless, because seeing distinctions is a precursor, falsely speaking in various distinctions, is mistaking it for the only one. Sense object is not the meaning of sound, because it appears without it, and because of focusing on distinct aspects. Not having the form of one and many, by direct perception, the form of meaning is one, seeing it close to sound, that very agent etc. form, will be apprehended as various. Tasting differently with the tongue sense, saying the sweetness of sound is different, therefore, sense object in all ways, is not the domain of sound. The one that clarifies the meaning of sound, is the imputation of conceptual thought, therefore, agents etc., want to enter through the door of expression. Wherever it is said, "Look at the cow," the eye is the knower, the changing knower, that is the consciousness of the meaning of sound.

The earth is, wanting to look at its own nature. The act of looking is, there it can be shown very well. For the continuum with joy, it will want to look. However, there, if you want to clarify the image of meaning well with sound, then what name will apply? What else is there to look at? Clearly seeing, people, some say sound, that seen designation cannot be distinguished, foolish and very cunning people, discriminate the two aspects, if there is meaning, then it is another image, what appears, for the same meaning, due to attachment, give it a name. What is this designation referring to? Another person also says this is, until the discriminating mind is not obvious, before that the name will not arise. Therefore, the speaker and the listener's, two minds appear similar, the place of use is the same, only that, the meaning of the external object, there is no place of use for sound. What appears in one's own mind is, although it is awareness, yet to external objects, arrogance arises from clinging to it as one, like the similar mind of someone with cataracts. Because one's own nature is limitless, because it is not the object of speech, therefore for it, not wanting to apply a name, because it appears in the mind, so it is not a generality either. Therefore, for the meaning of the mind, apply a name, not to the place of the external object. To what, does the person apply a name, for the expression also understand it. Whether the external object exists or not is fine, what is the image determined by the mind, that is exactly in the listener's mind, understood through those sounds. The nature that is contrary to all is, separated from some things, people determine well, sound correctly combines. Separated from some things, also relying on separation, special, the very basis of special, thus sound and meaning are different. Through the difference of separating from some things, the sound that follows the name, is a different meaning, in that, it is not a real thing, other is also not one. Therefore, if it is possible to separate from many, then for it, how to apply one name? The person who says this, this is not analysis. Separated from everything, the only one from what what, producing a mind of separation, that nature combines sound. What is seen even without existence, and what is not seen even with existence, those two are both.
