Thatness is reality. The manifold and the reality are realized by the Western Vaibhashikas. The present five aggregates, space, and the cessation through discrimination and the cessation not through discrimination, the nature of the four entities, are manifold. The impermanence of the aggregates is the only reality, and the permanence of space, the cessation through discrimination, and the cessation not through discrimination is reality. The manifold and the reality are realized by the Kashmirian Vaibhashikas. Consciousness with aspects apprehends external objects and is merely the present five aggregates, the nature of one thing is manifold. From the time it is made its own cause, until it lasts, the nature of being fully engaged is only momentary and selfless, which is reality. The manifold and the reality are realized by those who abide in the view of the Hārīputrīyas. Ultimately, the non-dual wisdom, like a cloudless autumn sky, is the only one. Furthermore, due to the power of ignorance, this false appearance, such as the nature of grasper and grasped, appears as a wheel of aspects such as blue, which is one tenet of the Yogachara school. The great bliss, the self-luminous nature, is merely the truth. In the wheel of false appearances, like illusion, due to the power of the habits of ignorance, those who follow reason, wishing to show the difference of these meanings, have already established it elsewhere with the measure of the undiminished eye of wisdom, this is its meaning. Thus, although the manifold and the reality have been spoken of in many ways, wishing to benefit all beings, all sentient beings should be placed in the means of accomplishment of the Middle Way, perfectly complete enlightenment, spoken by the noble Maitreya. Among them, as long as the manifold appears separately, the aspects of body, enjoyment, and place, etc., are merely the appearance of their own minds. Attachment to the two, sentient beings and the world of objects, is samsara, and its cessation is liberation. Thus, all phenomena of the nature of the continuum of the manifold appearing non-dually should be examined.

Emptiness, which is devoid of grasping and being grasped, is both diverse and the sole reality. These are also extremely distinct: the Tathāgatas are the Dharmakāya. The very manifestation of the Sambhogakāya, liberated from materiality, is the ultimate Prajñāpāramitā of the fruition stage. Merely ascertaining this is the Prajñāpāramitā of the nature of the causal stage. By the power of great compassion, gazing upon all sentient beings in saṃsāra ablaze with the fire of the three sufferings, one should generate equanimity, the intention to benefit, the intention to cause no harm, loving-kindness, non-anger, the mind of a father and mother, the mind of sons and daughters, the mind of friends, and the mind of relatives towards all those sentient beings. First, one should generate loving-kindness that surpasses even one's own life. One should liberate all those sentient beings from saṃsāra and firmly establish them in Buddhahood. Generating the mind of enlightenment, wishing them to become perfectly complete Buddhas, taking refuge in the Three Jewels, turning away from all sinful actions, including the ten non-virtues, cultivating the ten pāramitās, such as generosity, becoming a Tathāgata who is the nature of the three bodies—Dharmakāya, Sambhogakāya, and Nirmāṇakāya—having reached the other shore of the ocean of all accumulations of merit and wisdom, one liberates beings until saṃsāra is empty. This is the order of abiding in the Pāramitāyāna. Thus concludes "The Tree of Virtue," composed by the Paṇḍita Ratnakīrti of Vikramaśīla. Translated by the Paṇḍita Vidyākarasiṃha and the translator Mañjuśrīvarman. A Commentary on "The Tree of Virtue," by Ratnakīrti.
