All the dharmas that are gathered together are, from the very beginning, unborn, and therefore are naturally pure. Therefore, one should cultivate the understanding that things that are able to perform actions are not established by their own nature and are without essence. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "Because wisdom thoroughly examines, Self-nature is not seen; Therefore, they are unspeakable, And also said to be without essence." Furthermore, in the same text it says: "Free from the extremes of existence and non-existence, And abandoned by cause and condition, Existence is seen without cause, self-appearing, The mind's continuum is completely pure." Thus, if it is naturally pure and nothing at all, what is the meaning of the various appearances? It is said that since everything is gathered into the mind of enlightenment, one should cultivate the understanding of great compassion. All the dharmas of samsara and nirvana are one's own mind of enlightenment, and those who speak of external objects as real are not as they wish. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "As children imagine, External appearances do not exist; The mind appears like an image, And habits also cause confusion." Therefore, for those who have not realized, with compassion focused on sentient beings, one should feel compassion for their suffering; with compassion focused on dharmas, one should meditate on all dharmas as impermanent, suffering, empty, and selfless; and one should meditate on compassion without an object and emptiness. Thus, if one meditates with great compassion, all the Buddha's teachings are gathered there. Furthermore, in the Sutra of Gathering the Correct Dharma, it is said: "Bhagavan, just as wherever there is a precious wheel of a Chakravartin, all the hosts of armies are there. Bhagavan, in the same way, wherever there is the great compassion of a Bodhisattva, all the Buddha's teachings are gathered there." Then, what is the nature of that mind? It is said that because it is naturally luminous, one should cultivate the understanding of non-objectification. Because it is naturally luminous, one should cultivate the understanding of not fixating on anything, like the sky. As it is said in the Ornament of the Light of Wisdom: The mind is naturally luminous.

It is said that although there are sudden near afflictions, the nature is not completely defiled. Again, in the same sutra, it is said: Manjushri, Bodhi is the self-nature of the mind, which is clear and bright, so the self-nature is clear and bright. Why? Because it is said that the self-nature is clear and bright, that self-nature is without all defilements, so it is the same as space. Having the nature of space, space pervades everything, like space, because it is extremely bright. If the ultimate truth is like this, then how should it be viewed in the relative truth? It is said in the sutra that because all things are impermanent, one should cultivate the concept of not being attached to anything. Because all things produced by causes and conditions are momentary, sentient beings will not abide and will change, so they are impermanent. Therefore, for any desirable qualities, the mind of the Bodhisattva should not be attached, but should cultivate its nature as emptiness and the nature of peace. As it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: Alas! All conditioned things are impermanent, they are the nature of arising and ceasing. Having been born, they will eventually perish, so rapid extinction is happiness. If one realizes the nature of the mind as it is, what will happen? It is said in the sutra that if one realizes the mind, it is wisdom, so one should cultivate the concept of not seeking the Buddha elsewhere. As mentioned above, if one truly knows that the nature of the mind is the nature of luminosity, then it is only on this wisdom that the name of Buddha is established, and apart from that, one will not find the Buddha elsewhere. As it is said in the Diamond Sutra: Whoever sees me in form, seeks me in sound, that person walks the wrong path and cannot see the Tathagata. All Buddhas are Dharmata, the guides are Dharmakaya, Dharmata is not knowable, they cannot know them. Also, as it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: The mind free from thought is the mind, turning away from the basis of the store consciousness, in order to understand all dharmas, therefore I say that is the Buddha. It is said like this. For those who like to summarize the meaning, the Bhagavan spoke that verse: All dharmas are pure in nature.
