Even the means to be free from bondage, why are they said to be bondage? Therefore, neither should be abandoned. To dispel doubts about what is wisdom and what is means, the true difference between means and wisdom should be clearly distinguished. Giving, etc., the perfections that have abandoned the perfection of wisdom, all collections of virtue are taught as the means of the Victorious Ones. By the power of meditating on means, if one meditates on wisdom, then one will quickly attain enlightenment, not by meditating on selflessness alone. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases, when realized as unborn, knowing their nature as emptiness, are fully taught as wisdom. Existence cannot be born, and non-existence is like a flower in the sky. Since there are faults in both cases, neither arises. Things do not arise from themselves, nor from others, nor from both, nor from no cause, therefore, in terms of essence, they have no nature. Or, if all phenomena are analyzed by one and many, since their essence cannot be determined, it is certain that they are without nature. In the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness" and the "Root Verses on the Middle Way," etc., the emptiness of the nature of things has been established and taught. Because the texts would become numerous, therefore, I will not elaborate here, but only briefly explain the established tenets for the sake of meditation. Therefore, since the nature of all phenomena cannot be determined, whatever meditation is on selflessness, that is the meditation on wisdom. Wisdom does not see any nature of all phenomena, that wisdom is said to be intelligence, and it should be meditated on without discrimination. This existence that arises from discrimination, its nature is discrimination, therefore, completely abandoning discrimination is the supreme nirvana. Thus, the Bhagavan also said: Discrimination is great ignorance, it causes one to fall into the ocean of samsara. Abiding in non-discriminating samadhi, like the sky, is non-discriminating and clear. It is also said in the "Dharani for Entering Non-Discrimination": If the sons of the Victorious Ones contemplate this profound Dharma without discrimination, they will transcend the difficult-to-traverse discriminations and gradually attain non-discriminating wisdom.

Through reason and valid cognition, Having ascertained that all phenomena are unborn, Devoid of inherent existence, One should meditate on non-conceptualization. Having meditated on that in this way, Gradually obtaining warmth and so forth, Because of obtaining great joy and so forth, Attaining Buddhahood and enlightenment will not be long. Through the power of mantra itself, Through actions such as pacifying and increasing, Through things such as the accomplishment of a good vase, Even through the power of the eight great siddhas and so forth, With happiness, the accumulations for enlightenment, Those who desire to perfect, And the tantras that speak of action and conduct and so forth, If you wish to practice secret mantra, Then for the sake of the teacher's empowerment, Offerings of veneration, jewels, and so forth, Through all of the hardships and so forth, Make the holy guru pleased. Because the guru is pleased, Having been completely empowered by the teacher, One whose nature is utterly purified of all sins, Will become fortunate to accomplish siddhis. In the first great Buddha-tantra, Because it is prohibited with great effort, The secret wisdom empowerment, Should not be taken by those who practice celibacy. If one holds that empowerment, Remaining in celibacy and asceticism, Because it would be practicing what is prohibited, That ascetic discipline would be ruined. That ascetic would be defeated, And faults would arise, That one would definitely fall into the lower realms, And there would definitely be no accomplishment. Listening to and explaining all the tantras, Making fire offerings, offerings, and so forth, The teacher's empowerment will be obtained, And there will be no fault in that knowledge. The abbot Dipamkara Shri, Having seen it explained in the sutras and other teachings, After Bodhiprabha made a request, He summarized the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment. The Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, composed by the great teacher glorious Dipamkara Jnana, is complete. Translated and finalized by the great Indian abbot himself and the reviser-translator Gewai Lodrö. This Dharma was composed in the Toling Monastery of Zhangzhung. The Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, Dipamkara Jnana.
