Extensive Explanation of the Four Immeasurables. Sangye Sangwa (Buddha Guhya). Extensive Explanation of the Four Immeasurables. Sangye Sangwa (Buddha Guhya). The Extensive Explanation of the Four Immeasurables is entered. Loving-kindness and compassion, joy and equanimity, these great immeasurables, are explained here for the sake of diligent meditation. Thus, focusing on limitless sentient beings, limitless accumulations, limitless Dharma, and limitless wisdom. Among these, sentient beings are limitless because one cannot estimate the number of sentient beings in the three realms, saying there are only this many. Thus, they are called limitless sentient beings. As the Bhagavan said in the Sutra of the Great Compassion of the Noble Tathagata: "Son of good family, those sentient beings residing in a space the size of a chariot wheel spoke in this direction, seen by the Tathagata, are very many. The gods and humans of the three thousand great thousand world systems are not like that. Thus, the realm of sentient beings that has not appeared is limitless." Because it is said thus, and because the realm of sentient beings cannot be grasped, it is called limitless sentient beings. Having meditated on the immeasurable, how should one focus on and meditate on limitless sentient beings? Thus, all sentient beings of the three realms, from beginningless time, due to the power of their respective karmas, wandering in high and low places, have all been my relatives hundreds and thousands of times. Thinking, 'This is my relative,' and remaining equanimous towards all sentient beings with the four immeasurables, this is the expression of focusing on limitless sentient beings. Among these, limitless accumulations are the limitless accumulations of merit and wisdom. The cause is the four dharmas, which are the cause or nature of generating the two types of limitless accumulations of merit and wisdom. Thus, the Bhagavan also said in the sutras, "Son of good family, offering to one who meditates on the samadhi of loving-kindness without rising from their seat will generate immeasurable merit." As it is said, offering to someone who meditates on the immeasurables such as loving-kindness also obtains much merit; what about truly
