The Treatise on the Appearance of Suchness The Treatise on the Appearance of Suchness In Sanskrit: Tattvālokanānāmaprakaraṇaṃ. In Tibetan: The Treatise on the Appearance of Suchness. I prostrate to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Having attained the true nectar, I pray as desired. Having attained the state without birth and death, with compassion, Whoever dwells making all beings attain those, Having bowed down to that, may we realize the very truth. Because all these beings, are bound by the noose of ignorance. It is said that liberation is through true realization, So the wise ones have declared. Those who desire liberation, Should not engage in meaningless debates here. If someone is without ignorance, They will not seek inferior things. Birth is said to be the root of suffering, That is said to be inferior. The beginningless unknowing, That too is shown by the wise as the root. Because birth depends on causes, And also because antidotes exist. When the light of wisdom arises, It is abandoned like darkness. The nature of unknowing is ignorance, It must be abandoned, therefore with respect. In order to generate the true light, those who desire liberation should strive for excellence. These clear forms and so on, are known to all children. If they were indeed true, All sentient beings would be liberated. If the wise ones are arrogant, And everyone sees that here, Then there would be no various debates, rather than speaking separately. For the speakers too, There may be mutual contradictions. Merely by the instructions of others, There is no true certainty. One is not compatible with another, One's own nature is mutually, If contradictory, then the true, Cannot become many. Therefore, those with realization, Should analyze it with their own reasoning, Through possessing scripture and reason, Having become stable, meditate. If one accepts that forms and so on, are indeed true. Then analyze whether the valid cognition, that is accomplished from them exists or not. The terms of existence and non-existence, depend on valid cognition, the wise ones. If that does not exist, then they, have abandoned possessing realization. In order to arise merely from desire, and also through the meaning opposite to that, That too will not be established, too much.

Therefore, it cannot be established by mere words. Although valid cognition, concomitance, and contradiction pervade correct terms, it is excellent to abide in the statement of entities. Because permanence and so on can also pervade sound, it becomes excessive. Thus, pervasion is not established from contradiction alone. If there is no concomitance, then contradiction does not exist. If it does not follow the entity, then it will not become a contradictory thing. Therefore, it is desired to pervade, and it is certainly desired to be concomitant. Even if it is established, from valid cognition, the entity is ultimately established. Thus, if the term "where is it" can establish what is followed by valid cognition, then our entity is established. Even if pervasion is established, it does not necessarily establish the true entity. Thus, from the existence of the pervader, not all pervaded objects are manifest. Such as trees, sal trees, and sandalwood trees, etc. Thus, even if only the tree pervades, what are they by that alone? Can it be definitely established from that? Similarly, even if valid cognition enters, you cannot certainly establish this term of the existence of an entity as having a true meaning. This teaching is mistaken, because trees and sandalwood trees, etc., are common, so the distinction cannot be clearly understood from that. The object of valid cognition does not enter after the entity has ceased. If it also enters elsewhere, then it should not be valid cognition. Thus, the entity pervades valid cognition, and it also pervades terms. The entity arises from pervasive valid cognition, and it will not enter into others. Because there are objects of worldly conventional truth and ultimate truth, therefore, the true entity cannot pervade valid cognition. If all valid cognitions exist on the true entity, then, because everyone can see the truth, there is no need for the path of the noble ones. Because liberation is possible without effort, the celibacy and fasting, etc., of those who desire liberation are meaningless, and only afflictions arise. Yogis cannot distinguish the differences in other sense consciousnesses from direct perception. For meanings that are completely established, those who desire true understanding should not argue. The treatises on the nature of valid cognition are meaningless to compose, and there are also many natures that contradict each other.
