Before the Buddhas who have passed away, With palms joined, I make this supplication: For sentient beings bewildered by the darkness of suffering, I beseech you to kindle the lamp of Dharma. Before the Victorious Ones who wish to pass into Nirvana, With palms joined, I make this supplication: Do not abandon this assembly to blindness, I beseech you to remain for countless aeons. Having thus performed all these actions, Whatever merit I have accumulated, May it eliminate all the sufferings Of all sentient beings. Just as the Sugatas of the past Aroused the thought of enlightenment, And dwelt in the trainings Of the Bodhisattvas in due order, Likewise, for the sake of benefiting beings, I will arouse the thought of enlightenment, And in the same way, I will train In the trainings in due order. Thus, those who are intelligent Should take hold of the excellent Bodhicitta, And in order to make the end flourish, They should exalt their minds in this way: "At that time, my life will have fruit, And I will have obtained a good human existence. Today I am born into the Buddha lineage, And now I have become a son of the Buddhas." Having firmly grasped the Bodhicitta, Without distraction, always, I will strive not to stray from the trainings. Whatever is done rashly, Or whatever is well considered, Even if a vow has been made, It is proper to consider whether to do it or abandon it. The Buddhas and their sons, Who have considered with great wisdom, And what I myself have considered, What is there to retract from that? If, having made such a vow, I do not accomplish it with action, Having deceived all those sentient beings, What kind of existence will I have in the future? If I do not know even this delusion, What is in my heart? The sounds of hatred, desire, etc., Are not like hands and feet, etc., having form, They are not brave or intelligent, but They make me like a slave. Those who wish to protect the trainings Should diligently Protect their minds. If the mind is not protected, It is not possible to protect the trainings. For those who wish to protect their minds, Mindfulness and awareness are essential. Even if life is at stake, protect them, I advise you in this way. By associating with the lama and companions, And from what the preceptor has taught, For the fortunate who are fearful of negligence and respectful, Mindfulness will arise very easily. Always being cared for by virtuous friends, The Great Vehicle Dharma

Those who are wise, and the supreme conduct of Bodhisattvas, they do not abandon it even for their lives. These and other teachings of the Buddha, should be known by reading the Sutra Pitaka. In the Sutra Pitaka there are trainings, therefore one should read the Sutra Pitaka. Accumulated over thousands of kalpas, offerings to the Sugatas and so on, whatever good deeds there are, all of them are destroyed by a single instance of anger. There is no sin like hatred, there is no austerity like patience, therefore one should diligently practice patience, in various ways. To me or my friends, suffering, contempt, harsh words, and unpleasant things occur, while the opposite happens to enemies. The cause of happiness occurs occasionally, but the cause of suffering is very abundant. Without suffering, there is no renunciation, therefore, your mind should be firm. If you do not get angry at the great source of suffering, such as bile, why get angry at those with minds? All of them are driven by conditions. All faults whatsoever, and various kinds of sins, all of them arise from the power of conditions, they are not independent. Thus, everything is under the control of others, by its power it is powerless. Knowing this, one should not be angry at all things, like snakes. Because of carelessness, even to oneself, thorns and the like can cause harm. For the sake of obtaining women and the like, one becomes fierce and fasts, and so on. When one is controlled by afflictions, one even becomes a killer of oneself. At that time, how can they not harm the bodies of others? Because afflictions arise in this way, those who engage in suicide and the like, even if a hundredfold compassion does not arise, what is so strange about anger arising? Thus, with patience, one begins diligence. In this way, Bodhi dwells in diligence. Just as there is no movement without wind, merit does not arise without diligence. Diligence is delight in virtue, its opposing factors should be explained. Attachment to bad laziness, and despising oneself, are laziness. From experiencing the taste of the pleasure of idleness, and the desire to rely on sleep, and not being disgusted with the suffering of samsara, laziness arises. Thus, abandoning the opposing factors, in order to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, aspiration, steadfastness, joy, and abandonment
