The Poem Called Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness. By the Holy Nāgārjuna. The Poem Called Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness. By the Holy Nāgārjuna. In Sanskrit: Śūnyatāsaptatikākārikānāma. In Tibetan: The Poem Called Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness. Homage to youthful Mañjuśrī. Does it abide, or is there arising and ceasing, existence or non-existence? Is it inferior, or equal, or distinguished? By the power of the Buddha's worldly conventions, Not by the power of the true speech. Selflessness, not selflessness, self and, Not selflessness, there is nothing to say, What is said is equal to nirvāṇa, The nature of all things Is empty. Because the nature of all things Is the collection of causes and conditions, or On each and every thing, It is not existent, therefore it is empty. Because it exists, the existent does not arise, Because it does not exist, the non-existent does not arise. Because the dharmas are not compatible, it is neither existent nor non-existent, Because there is no arising, there is no abiding or ceasing. That which has arisen is not to be produced, That which has not arisen is also not to be produced, The arising of that which has arisen and that which has not arisen, That which is arising is also not to be produced. Because the result exists, there is a cause with a result, It is equal to the non-cause, and that which does not exist, Is also not a cause in that, it is equal to the non-cause, If it is neither existent nor non-existent, it is contradictory, It is not reasonable in the three times. If one does not exist, then many do not exist, If many do not exist, then one does not abide. Therefore, the things that arise dependently Are without characteristics, they are empty. The twelve branches of dependent arising, That which has suffering as its result has not arisen, It is not reasonable for one mind, It is also not reasonable for many. Not permanent, not impermanent, not self and, Not self, not pure, not impure, Not happiness, not suffering, and not, Therefore, the reversed views do not exist. If that does not exist, the four reversed views arise, From the existence of ignorance that has arisen, If that does not exist, formations do not arise, And the remaining ones are also the same. Ignorance and formations do not arise without, If that does not exist, formations do not arise, Because they are causes for each other, these two Are not established by their own nature. That which is not established by its own nature, How does it produce another? Therefore, by that which is established by another, The other conditions are not the cause of production. The father is not the son, the son is not the father, These two are not mutually non-existent, and they are not, These two are also not at the same time, it is not reasonable.
