A Detailed Explanation of the Nine Verses Summarizing the Meaning of the Bhagavati Prajñāpāramitā, by the Great Teacher Kampala. A Detailed Explanation of the Nine Verses Summarizing the Meaning of the Bhagavati Prajñāpāramitā. By the Great Teacher Kampala. In Sanskrit: Bhagavati Prajñāpāramitā Navaśloka Paṇḍi Arthaṭīkā. In Tibetan: A Detailed Explanation of the Nine Verses Summarizing the Meaning of the Bhagavati Prajñāpāramitā. Homage to the Bhagavan, Lord of Speech! Wisdom gone beyond is the ocean, The source of precious virtue is itself. All those gone beyond, In that, abide by their very nature. Without elaboration and without appearance, Without conception and free from faults, Without substance and extremely subtle, Mind and speech are completely abandoned. The mother of wisdom gone beyond, Is the supreme source of all Buddhas. The way of the three non-indications, Possessing the cause of omniscient wisdom. The Prajñāpāramitā, Whoever wishes to meditate correctly, Should contemplate the meaning of these nine verses, The condensed meaning should be contemplated. That is to say, wisdom is characterized by hearing, thinking, and meditating. Gone beyond means going to the ultimate extreme, therefore it is free from all conceptions. That is to say, that is called the Prajñāpāramitā. Whoever wishes to meditate correctly, means to apply the mind in a non-inverted manner, and whoever has manifest joy should contemplate and apply the mind to the meaning of the nine verses explained below through the door of meaning. Is it to be explained extensively? To show that it is not so, it is said, "The condensed meaning," which means to summarize briefly. In order to show those nine verses in order, That which arises entirely from the power of karma, Possessing the nature of the six sense bases, Known as rebirth, That is like illusions. Thus it is said. Karma is virtuous and non-virtuous. That which arises from that karma is called "from the power of karma," meaning that karma becomes the master. That which arises from that is truly born. What is that? The six sense bases.

That which has six characteristics. It is called: birth is consciousness. Because it increases, it is called the place of birth. The inner self, namely the six: eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind, are the characteristics of the six places of birth, which are the characteristics of the six places of birth arising from the power of karma. What is it like? It is called rebirth, that is, the state between the dharmas that cause rebirth. Thus it is famous, that is, the state between complete declaration and description. In order to further reveal its true essence, it is said, "It is like a mirage." It means that whatever is like a mirage, similar to it, is like a mirage, because it is empty, being separated from the agent, action, and deed. In order to reveal the essence of the external sense bases such as form in sequence, it is said, "As in a city of illusion, like seeing various illusions, beings transformed by karma, likewise see all forms." It means, as in a city of illusion, from that other illusions appear in various ways, Those two also do not exist, because they arise entirely from what is unreal. The object to be seen and the seer are also similar to that, when all forms appear in the external world in that way, beings transformed by karma will see them in the three realms, it should be known, that is, it should be understood that there is no difference from the illusion itself. In order to reveal that sounds are similar to echoes, it is said, "The sound of the Dharma being taught, and whatever is the object of hearing, whatever is heard and has arisen, all are like a reverberation in a valley." It means, the sound of the Dharma being taught is from the perspective of the teacher, and the sounds that arise from that. The object of hearing is the object of hearing. Whatever, refers to anything similar to that. Whatever is heard and has arisen, refers to any sound that should be heard, listened to, and approached, from where it is heard

etc. Therefore, in order to show that there is no difference, it is said "all." The meaning of "like an echo" is that all of these appear like an echo. In order to show that it is like a person's dream, it is said: "Because of attachment to objects, smelling, tasting, and likewise touching, are not truly existent, all of these are like a dream." It is said, "Because of attachment to objects," etc., which refers to those who crave objects, and the word "because" should be connected to each word separately. "Smelling" refers to the object taken by nose consciousness, which is the substance of smells. "Tasting" refers to tastes. "Likewise touching" refers to what is touched. Like this, the smells, tastes, and tactile sensations that those who are attached to objects enjoy are not truly existent. Why? Because it is said, "All of these are like a dream," meaning that they are the same as dreams and there is no difference. If the internal sources of arising, such as the eye, and the external sources of arising, such as forms, also do not exist, then how do the actions and functions related to them appear? To dispel this doubt, it is said: "Just as a magical automaton person performs various different actions, this selfless body automaton will also perform various actions." It is said, "Like a magical automaton person," which refers to the image puppet made by a magical automaton. "Performs various different actions" means that although it has no actions or functions, it will perform actions with various different characteristics such as bodily actions and walking. Similarly, "This selfless body automaton," the body itself is like an automaton, so it is called the body automaton. Because it is separated from "self," it is called selfless. Therefore, this selfless body actually has no real actions. "Will also perform various actions" means that even this selfless one who has actions will perform various different actions like the image of a magical automaton puppet.
