The Quintessence of the Four Seals, called. Non-Dual Vajra. The Quintessence of the Four Seals, called. Non-Dual Vajra. In Sanskrit: Chaturmudra Upadesha Nama. In Tibetan: Called the Quintessence of the Four Seals. Homage to glorious Vajrasattva! Emptiness and compassion are indivisible, profound and of a nature difficult to fathom. The very essence of the Great Seal, having paid homage, I will explain it. A yogi who wishes to enter the quintessence should first understand all the tenets. There are three vehicles: the Hearer Vehicle, the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and the Great Vehicle. These abide in four places: abiding in the Vaibhashika, abiding in the Sutra, abiding in the Consciousness-only, and abiding in the Middle Way. These themselves have nine combinations: the three Hearers, superior, middling, and inferior, the Solitary Realizer, the Sutra, the with-form, the without-form, the illusory-like non-dual Middle Way, and the Middle Way that asserts that all phenomena are utterly non-abiding. Each of these has four: the gate of investigation, meditation, the impurity of meditation, and view. Investigation is the wisdom of individual discernment based on hearing and thinking. Meditation is the wisdom of one's own cultivation. The impurity of meditation is the aspect that is actually incompatible with it. View is the distinction grasped by one's own wisdom, and the mind takes one's own fruit as an object. In this case, the conduct of the lowest Hearer is to desire an inexpressible person, taking as primary the acceptance of things such as blue. The middling is in accordance with that. The superior sees the person as empty by fully knowing the four noble truths. The Solitary Conqueror sees the grasped as empty and accepts the grasper. The Sutra asserts that the grasped is an aggregate and the grasper is the six aggregates. The with-form asserts the appearance of knowing everything, asserting that the various are non-dual. The without-form asserts that all of these are mind itself, asserting that the without-form is the nature of awareness. The illusory-like asserts that all phenomena are like illusions, empty of true entities, asserting that it itself is non-dual. The utterly non-abiding asserts that all terms are merely designations, and that the nature of things is nothing at all.

This is a contemplation on non-abiding. Meditation is cultivating the impure, abiding in counting breaths and diligence, abiding in the truth of emptiness, where nothing appears like a snuffed-out candle, abiding at the tip of the nose, abiding in the mind after contracting the mandala, abiding in the aspect of the mind, abiding in the formless and abiding in the image, abiding in the nature of that which is not established in any way. Among these, to abide in the aspect of the mind, one must first direct awareness to anything at all, and then abide in the understanding that this is mind-only. To abide in the formless, one must first make offerings and so forth, have the student sit on a mat, regulate the breath, first have awareness directed to things like flowers, and then place the hand on the crown of the head and recite this mantra: Om Ara Ra Hum Hum. Om Vajra Yogini Adhi Tistha Hum Phet. Om Vajra Yogini Adhi Tistha Hum Phet. At the beginning, recite the mantra of one's own yidam. Then, even without flowers, it will quickly arise. The defilements and views of meditation, etc., are not mentioned here because they have been clarified elsewhere. Thus, there are the unskilled obscured and the skilled unobscured. Their compassion is also divided into object-oriented towards sentient beings, object-oriented towards dharma, and non-object-oriented. Among these, the Secret Mantra Vehicle is the Great Vehicle among the three vehicles. Abiding is the latter two. Union is the last four. Among these, relying on the master's own treatises is an extremely non-abiding union. Even so, it is not entirely without difference from this, as it is said: Though the meaning is one, it is not ignorant, many methods without difficulty, controlled by sharp faculties, therefore the Mantra Vehicle is particularly superior. As such it is said, one should declare: the outer generation stage, the profound generation stage, the completion stage, the fully complete stage, the nature stage. Also, the exhalation of the Tathagata, the exhalation of Vajradhara. Also, relying on the imputed is the seal of other-powered, relying on other-powered nature is the perfectly established, relying on the perfectly established is Vajrasattva, which is sealed with the great bliss seal. Also, it should be understood from the four seals, the karma mudra is the profound generation stage.
