Napa Oh. In particular, to be in accordance with the karma, the offering substances should be burned with special mantras. Color, smell, and swirling at the top, shape, sound, etc., are auspicious. With the auspiciousness of merit, it is called burning offerings in the fire. For pacification, it is white; for increase, it is yellow. For subjugation, it is red; for fierce activities, black is the most excellent. Like the bow of a scepter, the fire offering swirling to the right is the best. Deep like the sound of a drum, oily and with the top swirling together. The smoke is abundant and accompanied by sparks, rising gradually and slowly. The rays of light are intermittent, yet brilliant, appearing without oil but dark. Some are like the color of meat, the top as bright as the sun. Similarly, it also resembles a bull's head. Inauspicious signs are truly seen; such things are omens. At the end of the fire offering, the flames subside, and with special flowers and incense and other offerings, with this verse, request the departure. For the benefit of oneself and others, after completing the burning and offering, please return at the appropriate time, grant me all accomplishments. When extinguishing the fire, use white, for the practice of pacification and increase. Water is white and yellow, for subjugation, etc., water is known to be red and black. With this mantra, cast the ashes, incense, flowers, and drum sounds together into the water. The explanation of the eighth chapter is completed. Chapter Eight, Explanation of the Fire Offering Ritual.
