In order to be accepted later, (choose) a place that is in accordance with your mind. In any case, as long as you have the yoga of the glorious Wheel of Bliss, you should recite as it is said: "The Lord of the Wheel, a million times, and the Lord of the Mandala, likewise." By reciting in this way, either you will receive a sign from the deity, or you will purify and stabilize your own mind. This is the preliminary practice. Then, perform the main practice. Regarding the characteristics of the site: What kind of land is good, and what is not good, should be carefully examined and then accepted or rejected. Land that is uneven, thorny, has fragments of tiles, has cliffs, has bones, has tree stumps, has pits, has ant nests, has ashes, has heat sources, has gravel, has stones, has dust, has hair, has many worms, ants, snails, etc., should be abandoned by the wise for all activities. Land that is level, clean, and moist, completely free from the faults of dust, and facing east and north, is auspicious for all activities. The land where the mandala is located, if there is plenty of water nearby, is auspicious and will lead to accomplishment; if there is a lack of water, it will be despised by the wise. A place adorned with beautiful trees, pleasing to one's eyes and mind, without harm, without dust, should be considered a mandala site, where people can attain all accomplishments. Therefore, the practitioner should reside there. To the Bhagavan Wheel of Bliss, offer various jewels, (saying) Goddess, you have become my master, and then draw the mandala here. First, dig a pit that is just below the knee, and then fill it with the soil that was dug out. If there is soil left over, it is said that there will be accomplishment; if the opposite is true, the practitioner should not begin this work; if he does, he will suffer and will not obtain good results. If it is not possible to remove all the dust, then purify it well with only the secret mantra. The dwelling place of a sage, a cowshed, a cave, the top of a mountain, and any covered land, a roof, a stone slab, beside a stupa, an island in a river, the shores of lakes, do not require careful purification and examination of the land. Even if it is covered, it does not need to be broken, and faults such as being high or low.
