Explanation of the Thirtieth Chapter. Explanation of the Thirtieth Chapter. Now, in order to show that rebirth is taken according to the difference in the mind at the time of death, "wisdom" and so on are spoken. "Wisdom" means "consciousness." The difference is the difference by which any difference in mind can obtain a special rebirth. What is that like? "Wisdom, common blessing," that is, common is co-born. Blessing is following all differences from beginningless time. Some say that the ordinary consciousness of gods and demigods is not common, and blessing is self-existent. What is the other difference like? Because it is not possible to explain consciousness without understanding the difference, is it a request for the difference of difference? As previously shown, why is it requested again? It is thought that previously it was only heard, but the difference was not definitely grasped. The difference of suchness of wisdom is spoken. "Heaviness becomes thirty," and so on. Becoming heavy is the name of the difference of time. How much is it? Thirty, that is, the number of breaths running thirty times. "The fruit of virtue and evil arises," ༄། That is the body of the higher realms and the lower realms. By what? "The collection of actions done by the mind, blessed by pride." The collection of actions of the nature of virtue and evil, done by the mind, is the difference of the object. What is that like? "Blessed by pride," and so on. Up to "the nature of mind." Those are saying this, when the time of death comes, at the time of heaviness, the breath runs about thirty times, if the mind arising from below particularly focuses on one object, then rebirth will be taken in such rebirths as gods, according to the difference of mind. For that reason it is said, "The mind that has become cultivated, self-aware, goes to that rebirth." What is meant by becoming cultivated is the cause of afflictions.
