The Six-Limbed Yoga. Composed by Vajrapani. The Six-Limbed Yoga. Composed by Vajrapani. In Sanskrit: Ṣaḍaṅga Yoga Nāma. In Tibetan: Called the Six-Limbed Yoga. Homage to the Lord of Secrets, Vajrapani. Here, the means is the yoga of six limbs. Here, it is taught by reversing the intermediate order, and by abandoning each inner limb, the subsequent limb is taught without teaching the former, and it is to be understood by the force of implication. For example, if it is said, "acting during the day," even if it is not said, "acting during the night," it will be approximated by the force of implication. Similarly, whatever mutually dependent dharmas are not taught are also approximated by the taught dharmas. Therefore, in this tantra, three limbs belonging to each limb are taught. What is to be done first among the limbs explained in between is the oral instruction of the guru here. Otherwise, if one takes the order spoken of in the tantra, what need is there for the oral instruction of the guru? Therefore, everything spoken of by intention and so forth is to be understood from the oral instruction of the guru, or it is to be known from the commentaries made by the Bodhisattvas, but not from those made by those who possess the pride of scholars. Therefore, the other three limbs are to be known by what is called contemplation and so forth. In other tantras, the six limbs spoken of are to be understood here as three limbs by way of a condensed meaning. Here, in the Outer Tantra of the Guhyasamaja, it is said: "Separate gathering and contemplation, Life force and effort and holding, recollection and samadhi, are considered the six limbs of yoga." Therefore, what precedes contemplation is separate gathering. What precedes mantra recitation is life force and effort. Here, the sound of mantra recitation refers to the recitation of a hermaphrodite or the vajra recitation, which is said to be holding the life breath. What precedes bliss is recollection. Therein, the sound of bliss indicates samadhi. Thus, the yogi of the six limbs will accomplish the six qualities of Buddhahood. The accomplishment of the ordinary, external, worldly yoga is what is done by the child yogis who are beginners.

Recitation and meditation, the mind and bliss of meditating on the wheel of the mandala, are the worldly bliss arising from the karma mudra and the wisdom mudra, and the bliss of the descending nature, worldly bliss is the worldly fruit up to the realm of Akanishta. Thus, through the two stages, the worldly and the transcendental yogi will be accomplished. Here, it will be shown how the transcendental yogi is accomplished through the union of the supreme six limbs. Here, individual withdrawal means that for external objects such as form, consciousness such as the eye does not arise, but for internal objects, consciousness of the senses such as the divine eye arises. Internal means seeing without discriminating the object of emptiness of all dharmas, that is, seeing all things as emptiness. Just as a girl sees a reflection, seeing the reflection of the Buddha of the three realms is called individual withdrawal, which is the first limb. After that, meditation means the mind's entry into the wisdom that gathers the emptiness of all existing things. Investigation (Tibetan: རྟོག་པ་) means the mind grasping the meaning of things. Discrimination (Tibetan: དཔྱོད་པ་) means grasping the differences of things. Joy (Tibetan: དགའ་བ་) means the mind abiding in all things. Bliss (Tibetan: བདེ་བ་) means the unwavering aggregate of all things.

Then, recollection means abandoning conceptualization by seeing the image of the deity in whom one has faith. From this, the mandala of a form that does not emit many rays of light, is extremely clear, and has various forms, expands into the three realms; this is the limb of recollection. Samadhi means attachment to the deity in whom one has faith, the bliss of fearlessness, and one-pointedness of mind without grasping and grasper. Thus, the Tathagata spoke of the limb of samadhi. Here, the six limbs are briefly explained in yoga. If one wants to understand in detail, the yogi who desires the siddhi of Mahamudra should understand it from the Hundred Thousand Sections, the Shri Paramadya, or the Guru's instructions. Here, in the first step of the six-limbed yoga, the instructions on meditation are taught in other tantras, such as the recitation, proximate accomplishment, accomplishment, and great accomplishment in the Uttaratantra of Guhyasamaja. As it is said: During recitation, diligently meditate on the form of the Great Crown Buddha. During proximate accomplishment, similarly meditate on the form of the swirling nectar. During accomplishment, the yogi diligently meditates on the form of the deity. During great accomplishment, one contemplates the form of the Buddha Lord. Thus it is said. The intention here is that, in other words, the form of the Great Crown Buddha is the body of all the Buddhas in the three realms, placing great compassion in the Dharmadhatu of space, and meditating by individually gathering them in the first stage of recitation, and also stabilizing it with the limb of meditation. To this, the Bhagavan made a commitment: Completely abandon all conceptualizations and observe for one day and one night. If the signs do not appear, then my words are false. The signs refer to signs such as smoke. Not other mantras, etc. In another case, signs will appear to the reciter through any practice. Therefore, the reciter should abandon the thought of existence and non-existence, be independent, and from the deep and invisible emptiness, signs such as smoke appear, which are to be meditated upon. This is the Tathagata's certainty. Through the combination of action and binding, the three grounds can be attained. From the word "three", it refers to the Buddha's.
