Ninth, the chapter on collecting mantras. Ninth, the chapter on collecting mantras. In order to narrate the chapter on mantras that precedes the subduing of malice, it explains things such as "the characteristic of separating conjunctions." Conjunctions are like the navel and veins, covered by skin and hair. It is like a true conjunction, referring to the body. Alternatively, conjunctions are the union of skillful means and wisdom. In this context, skillful means is the body, and wisdom is consciousness. The combination of these is the conjunction, which is referred to as the body of beings. Separating from it means extracting consciousness from the body, which is the separation of conjunctions. What symbolizes and performs this is the characteristic of separating conjunctions. "By what mere consciousness?" means by what mere universal knowledge, without relying on other actions, is the separation of conjunctions done. "The accomplished practitioner" means one who has completed and attained the separation of conjunctions. To show its characteristics, it is said, "At the root of the navel to be subdued," and so on, meaning the subduer should be in front, removing the navel, and so on. How to generate fear, which is doing what contradicts enlightenment, to dispel doubts about this characteristic of separating conjunctions, it is said, "Should be killed with compassion." It means that one should act with compassion in a way that does not contradict fearlessness. Otherwise, those who harm the teachings of the Tathagatas, harm their parents, the guru, destroy Buddha images, and commit the five heinous crimes will fall into hell. Therefore, in order not to fall into hell, one should ask the guru and the Buddha in such a way, and be accepted by the most excellent subduing. Furthermore, other methods of union are explained, such as "After seeing the form of beings," and so on. After opening the conjunction, purity is immediately declared, such as "The joy of union of existence." The necessity is stated, such as "The giver of unobstructed accomplishment." After speaking of purity, the collection of mantras is declared, such as "First bestow Vairocana." Collecting mantras is the mantras.
