Wherever these words of the Eight Lights Sutra are, the eight Bodhisattvas, Brahma, Indra, the Four Great Kings, gods, nagas, yakshas, and others will adorn and make offerings with various offerings. If this Dharma Sutra is read and explained extensively, it should be regarded as the body of the Tathagata. The eye distinguishes various forms. Form itself is emptiness. Emptiness itself is form. The ear hears various sounds. Sound itself is emptiness. Emptiness itself is sound. The nose senses various smells. Smell itself is emptiness. Emptiness itself is smell. The tongue distinguishes various tastes. Taste itself is emptiness. Emptiness itself is taste. The body distinguishes various tactile sensations. Tactile sensation itself is emptiness. Emptiness itself is tactile sensation. Wisdom is emptiness. Emptiness itself is also wisdom. Then, the unobstructed Bodhisattva asked the Blessed One, saying: There is nothing more difficult than being born and dying in a single lifetime. At the time of birth, one is born without choosing a good day. At the time of death, one dies without choosing a good day. After death, if one cremates the body without choosing an auspicious time, many faults will occur, such as the extinction of descendants, poverty, and many disputes. What is the reason for this? The Blessed One replied: It is very auspicious to ask about the cremation of sentient beings. Furthermore, heaven and earth are auspicious. The sun and moon are good and bright. The human king Bodhisattva is extremely loving and compassionate, regarding all sentient beings as equal, like an only child. If the good Dharma of the land is taught, then the inauspicious gods, demons, and yakshas will worship the corpse. The forms of ghosts and demons are attached to the taste of delicious human food, and humans will suffer various sufferings. They do not believe in the holy Dharma, but they offer their lives to the Dharma of ghosts and demons. They believe in and practice the consumption of blood and flesh with perverse views, which leads to the extinction of descendants, poverty, and various sins. When giving birth to sons and daughters, if the Eight Lights Sutra is recited three times, childbirth will be easy, the mind will be upright and possess good qualities, the radiance will not be stolen by non-humans, and one will not die from evil spirits.
