The Great Sutra, the Sutra of the Great Assembly The Great Sutra, the Sutra of the Great Assembly In Sanskrit: Mahasamajasutra nama mahasutra. In Tibetan: The Great Sutra, the Sutra of the Great Assembly. Homage to the Three Jewels. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was in the forest of Serkya in the land of the Shakyas. Five hundred monks, all of whom were Arhats, free from outflows, had done what needed to be done, had accomplished what needed to be accomplished, had laid down their burdens, had attained their own benefit, had completely exhausted the bonds of existence, and whose minds were completely liberated by perfect knowledge, were dwelling together. Then, the Blessed One was teaching the Dharma talk endowed with Nirvana to the Sangha of monks. At that time, from all the Buddha-fields of the ten directions, gods who were renowned for their great power and influence gathered. They paid homage to the Blessed One and the Sangha of monks. Then, four gods of the Brahma retinue, dwelling in the Brahma world, thought to themselves: "The Buddha, the Blessed One, is in the forest of Serkya in the land of the Shakyas. 拉瓦啊！诸天众全部降临，为了瞻仰他人不能胜的僧伽，我们在此。梵天眷属的二位天神以偈颂祈请：以正直的心，于此精进的比丘，如驭者般摄取目光，善于调伏诸根。梵天眷属的三位天神以偈颂祈请：如深渊般光明的权杖，权杖已被摧毁，无法竖立。他们离欲清净行，导师如调伏幼象般调伏他们。梵天眷属的四位天神以偈颂祈请：凡是皈依佛者，他们不堕恶趣，舍弃人身后，将获得天身。梵天眷属的四位天神如是祈请后，便恭敬地安坐。之后，世尊遍观一切天众，对比丘们说道：比丘们，唉，诸天的集会是如此盛大！比丘们，唉，诸天的集会是如此之盛大！如来、阿罗汉、正等觉，凡是过去时已出现的诸佛世尊，也是如此，譬如现在我的诸天大集会一般聚集。如来、阿罗汉、正等觉，凡是未来时将出现的诸佛世尊，也是如此，譬如现在我的诸天大集会一般聚集。比丘们，诸天的名字将被宣说，记住诸天的名字！凡是住在地上者，以及住在山林者，如狮子般各自不同，心意集中，平等安住，全部 聚集者，被称为“毛发竖立”。凡是住在地上者，以及住在山林者，如狮子般各自不同，心意集中，平等安住，全部聚集，被称为“毛发竖立”，我将宣说。心意清净且殊胜，无垢离死者，到达梵天世界的尽头。

Lava! All the assemblies of gods have come, to behold the Sangha that others cannot overcome, we are here. Two gods of the Brahma retinue requested with verses: With an upright mind, here are the monks who are diligently striving, like a charioteer taking hold of the reins, they are skilled in subduing the senses. Three gods of the Brahma retinue requested with verses: The scepter of power, radiant like an abyss, the scepter has been destroyed and cannot be erected. They are free from desire and practice purity, the guide tames them like taming a young elephant. Four gods of the Brahma retinue requested with verses: Those who take refuge in the Buddha, they will not go to evil destinies, and having abandoned the human body, they will obtain a divine body. The four gods of the Brahma retinue, having requested thus, sat down respectfully. Then, the Blessed One, having looked upon all the assemblies of gods, spoke to the monks: Monks, alas, this assembly of gods is so great! Monks, alas, this assembly of gods is so very great! The Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Ones, all the Buddhas, Blessed Ones, who appeared in the past, were also like this, just as this great assembly of my gods is gathered now. The Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Ones, all the Buddhas, Blessed Ones, who will appear in the future, will also be like this, just as this great assembly of my gods will gather now. Monks, the names of the gods will be spoken, remember the names of the gods! Those who dwell on the earth, and those who dwell in the mountains, each different like lions, with minds gathered, dwelling equally, all assembled, are called "hair standing on end."
