The Noble Dhāraṇī Called Mīkhalā The Noble Dhāraṇī Called Mīkhalā In Sanskrit: Ārya Mīkhalā Nāma Dhāraṇī In Tibetan: The Noble Dhāraṇī Called Mīkhalā. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the land of the Śākyas, in Kapilavastu, in the grove of the Nyagrodha tree. At that time, a young man possessed by Rāhula was lying in bed, having been frightened by a rākṣasa. Then, that young man possessed by Rāhula, after the night had passed, was surrounded and escorted by many young men, and having come forth from Kapilavastu, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat before him weeping. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Ānanda, saying: Ānanda, for the sake of protecting the young man possessed by Rāhula, recite the vidyā-mantra called Mīkhalā. The hosts of gods, the hosts of nāgas, the hosts of yakṣas, the hosts of rākṣasas, the hosts of asuras, the hosts of garuḍas, the hosts of kinnaras, the hosts of mahoragas, the hosts of flesh-eaters, the hosts of pretas, the hosts of kumbhāṇḍas, the hosts of piśācas, the hosts of grahas, the hosts of stars, the twenty-eight yakṣa generals, the four great kings, the ṛṣis who are free from desire, and all those who dwell on the earth, and whatever beings appear in the ten directions, the hosts of rākṣasīs, Pāli, Kāṭalidi, Bodari, Groṇa, Yidsang, the great harītī, and all the hosts of mātṛs, listen to me! The guardians of the ocean's circle, in the eastern direction, the rākṣasī named Harītī, in the southern direction, the rākṣasī named Glāngsnāma, in the western direction, the rākṣasī named Ralpacan, in the northern direction, the rākṣasī named Sa'i Gtsug, those fierce rākṣasīs, each surrounded by sixty million attendants, may you all protect everything spoken in the vidyā-mantra of Mīkhalā! Ananda, this mantra of Mekhala is spoken by the Buddhas, the Bhagavad-ones of the past, for the benefit of sentient beings, for happiness, and for the sake of protecting and concealing. Other great sages have also said that the mantra of Mekhala benefits sentient beings. Whoever is engaged in sinful deeds and dwells in a place where their glory is taken away, all of them, upon hearing the mantra of Mekhala, will be greatly frightened and flee in all directions. Ananda, for those who have well grasped the mantra of Mekhala, protect them in all directions for twelve yojanas. Completely protect, completely embrace, completely nurture, and make them peaceful and happy. I prostrate to the Buddha. Abandon transgressions. Abandon weapons and the source of poison. Repel unfriendly beings. Set boundaries. Bind with thread. Repel all hatred. Do not instill fear in non-humans or those who commit evil deeds. I prostrate to the Buddha. May the basis of secret mantras be accomplished, Svaha. The ritual for this is to prostrate to the Tathagata, offer flowers and incense, and then bind with thread.
