The Bhagavan was dwelling in the Sudharma Hall of the Thirty-Three Gods in the heavenly realm, together with a great community of monks, a great community of Bodhisattvas, and Śakra, Lord of the Gods. Then, the Bhagavan sat upon the prepared seat and entered into the samādhi called the Uṣṇīṣa-vyavalokana. As soon as he had entered into samādhi, these secret mantra words arose from the center of the Bhagavan's uṣṇīṣa: Namo bhagavate uṣṇīṣāya śuddhe viraje vimale svāhā. Homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Complete Buddha, Shakyamuni! Homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Complete Buddha, the Jewel Moon! Having paid homage to them, I shall now proclaim the Queen of Knowledge-Mantras called "The White Umbrella," which arises from the crown of all the Bhagavan Tathagatas, is invincible by others, and repels all harm. It completely pacifies all strife, combat, quarrels, and debates. It repels all beings and demons. It cuts off all the knowledge-mantras of others. It completely protects from untimely death. It liberates all bound sentient beings. It destroys all hatred and bad dreams. It completely annihilates all yaksha and rakshasa demons. It completely destroys the eighty-four thousand demons. It perfectly accomplishes the twenty-eight constellations. It repels all enemies.
