第四十五品，顶生王之品。 第四十五品，顶生王之品。 如是我闻，一时，薄伽梵在善 निवासी（舍卫城），胜子林给孤独园中，与大比丘众千三百五十人俱。尔时，薄伽梵见诸比丘娇慢，贪著利养名闻，多怀增上慢，不知足而放逸，告诸比丘曰：汝等当知，贪著利养之过患，乃至于身坏命终之后，即堕三恶趣，受无量之痛苦。是故我当忆念往昔之事，由贪欲之故而堕落，受诸多之痛苦。时，阿难合掌，右膝著地，白佛言：世尊，往昔薄伽梵由贪欲之故而堕落者，其事云何？佛告阿难：往昔过无数无量无边不可思议不可称量之劫，此赡部洲有王名曰敬，统治赡部洲八万四千小国王，有二万妃嫔及宫女，有一万大臣。时，王之顶上生一如卵之水疱，清净光明而无痛楚，渐渐增大，如葫芦大小时破裂，从中生出一童子，端正殊妙，具诸相好，发绀青色，身色如金。相师见已，言此童子具有稀有功德之相，不为鬼魅所食，当为转轮圣王，统治四天下。遂名之为顶生。长大之后，具足功德，国王遂封为一国之小国王。一时，国王

Once, the Blessed One was in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in Anathapindika's Park, together with a great Sangha of thirteen hundred and fifty monks. At that time, the Blessed One saw that the monks were arrogant, attached to gain and fame, held much pride, and were insatiable and negligent. He then spoke to the monks about the faults of being attached to gain: "Whoever is attached to gain will fall into the three lower realms immediately after the body is destroyed and life has passed, and will experience immeasurable suffering. Therefore, I clearly remember that in the past, I fell due to the power of desire and experienced much suffering." Then, Ananda knelt on the ground, joined his palms, and said to the Blessed One, "O Blessed One, what was it like when you fell due to the power of attachment to desire in the past?" The Blessed One replied, "In the past, beyond countless, immeasurable, infinite, inconceivable, and incalculable eons, in this Jambudvipa, there was a king named Respect, who ruled over eighty-four thousand small kingdoms of Jambudvipa. He had twenty thousand consorts and palace maids, and ten thousand great ministers. At one time, a blister like an egg appeared on the king's head, clear and completely pure, without pain. Gradually, it grew larger and larger, and when it became the size of a gourd, it burst open. From within came a beautiful and handsome boy, endowed with auspicious marks, with hair of a dark blue color, and a body color like gold. An astrologer saw him and said, 'This boy possesses the marks of rare qualities. He will not be devoured by demons, and he will become a Chakravartin king, ruling over the four continents.' Born from the Crown of the Head said: If I have the merit and power to become king, may the Four Great Kings and Indra, and others, pray for me and bestow empowerment upon me. As soon as he spoke, the kings of the Four Great Kings descended, holding a precious vase filled with scented water, and poured it on the head of Born from the Crown of the Head, bestowing empowerment upon him. Indra, the lord of the gods, also descended, offering a precious crown, placing it on his head, and praising his virtues. Afterward, the various small kingdoms requested him to go to the great country in the center, and Born from the Crown of the Head again said: If I have the power to become king, the land should come to me, I will not pursue the land. As soon as he spoke, the great country, along with the king's palace, gardens, bathing ponds, and all necessities, naturally appeared. The golden wheel, the elephant jewel, the horse jewel, the woman jewel, the minister jewel, the householder jewel, and all others gathered, and he became a Chakravartin king, ruling the four continents, governing the country according to Dharma. Later, he saw many people digging the earth and plowing the fields, and asked his ministers what these people were doing. The ministers replied: All living beings depend on food for sustenance, and these people are also plowing the fields to make a living. The king then said: If I have the merit and power to become king, may food with a hundred flavors naturally appear without labor, so that everyone is satisfied and full, without hunger or thirst.
