That which is a thousand, that is the lifespan of the gods of the Thirty-Three. If calculated in human terms, it is three hundred and sixty million trillion years. A son or daughter of good family, who is faithful and possesses the eight-limbed noble fast, abiding in it once, upon separation from the body, is born with equal fortune to the gods of the Thirty-Three, that is the place. Establishing the place, considering this, relying on the bliss of the gods, the kingdom of humans is inferior, thus he taught. Establishing the place, two hundred years of humans is one day and night for the gods of Yama. The measure of one day and night, fifteen days is half a month, thirty days is one month, twelve months is one year. If calculated in human terms, it is 2.34 billion years and 140 billion years. Any son or daughter of good family who is faithful and observes the uposatha with the eight branches of the noble path once, will, upon separation from the body, be born with the same fortune as the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin, that is the reason. Kashyapa, considering this, relying on the bliss of the gods, the sovereignty of humans is inferior. Kashyapa, if sixty thousand human years are one day and night for the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin, then the length of a day and night is like that, fifteen days are half a month, thirty days are one month, twelve months are one year. According to the way of calculating years, sixty-six thousand years are the lifespan of the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin. If calculated in human terms, it is 9.216 billion years and 160 billion years. Any son or daughter of good family who is faithful and observes the uposatha with the eight branches of the noble path once, will, upon separation from the body, be born with the same fortune as the gods of Paranirmitavasavartin, that is the reason. Kashyapa, considering this, relying on the bliss of the gods, the sovereignty of humans is inferior. Kashyapa, you should observe the uposatha with the eight branches of the noble path, and diligently practice the miraculous powers. You should also indulge in the desires of gods and humans. Then, the Brahmin Kashyapa said this to the Blessed One: O Gautama, I have been practicing extreme asceticism every month for a long time, but I have not gained anything. From now on, I take refuge in the Buddha, I take refuge in the Dharma, and I take refuge in the Sangha.
