The Great Sutra Named "Supreme Banner" The Great Sutra Named "Supreme Banner" In Indian language: Dhujaagranaanama Mahaasuutram. In Tibetan: The Great Sutra Named "Supreme Banner". Homage to the Three Jewels! Thus I have heard: At one time, the Blessed One, while traveling in the land of abandonment, came to Vaisali. He stayed in the multi-storied house by the Monkey Pond in Vaisali. At that time, many merchants from Vaisali, intending to trade in the city of Stone Accumulation, prepared to go there. These many merchants from Vaisali heard that the Blessed One, while traveling in the land of abandonment, had come to Vaisali and was staying in the multi-storied house by the Monkey Pond in Vaisali. Having heard this, they gathered in groups, from many to more, and set out from Vaisali, going to where the Blessed One was. Arriving there, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. The Blessed One then taught the Dharma truthfully to the many merchants from Vaisali who were sitting on one side, causing them to understand it truthfully, to praise it truthfully, and to rejoice in it truthfully. In various ways, he taught the Dharma truthfully, causing them to understand it truthfully, to praise it truthfully, and to rejoice in it truthfully, and then he remained silent. Then, the many merchants from Vaisali rose from their seats, bared one shoulder, and, with palms joined, bowed towards where the Blessed One was. They said to the Blessed One: "Venerable One, we are many merchants from Vaisali, preparing to go to the city of Stone Accumulation to trade. Blessed One, would you please grant us the honor of accepting our meal offering tomorrow, together with the community of monks?" The Blessed One granted the request of the many merchants from Vaisali by remaining silent. Then, the many merchants from Vaisali, realizing that the Blessed One had granted their request by remaining silent, praised the Blessed One's teachings and

Having rejoiced, they bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and withdrew from his presence. Then, many merchants of Vaishali, having prepared pure and delicious food and drink that very night, rose early the next morning, laid out seats, and also placed water. They informed the Blessed One, "The monks are ready, the time has come. Please, Blessed One, be aware that the time has come," and invited him. Then, the Blessed One, in the early morning, put on his lower garment and robes, took his bowl, and surrounded by a gathering of monks, with the monastic community of monks leading the way, went to the assembly place of the many merchants of Vaishali. Having arrived, he sat on the seat that had been prepared for the monastic community of monks. Then, many merchants of Vaishali bowed their heads at the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. The Blessed One said to the many merchants of Vaishali who were sitting to one side: "Merchants, if you go to a solitary place and fear, apprehension, or hair-raising sensations arise, then you should remember thus: 'The Blessed One is the Tathagata (tathāgata, 如来), the Arhat (arhat, 阿罗汉), the perfectly enlightened Buddha (samyak-saṃbuddha, 正等觉), endowed with knowledge and conduct (vidyā-caraṇa-saṃpanna, 明行足), the Well-Gone (sugata, 善逝), the Knower of the World (loka-vid, 世间解), the unsurpassed trainer of those who can be tamed (anuttara-puruṣa-damya-sārathi, 无上士调御丈夫), the teacher of gods and humans (śāstā deva-manuṣyāṇām, 天人师), the Buddha (buddha, 佛), the Blessed One (bhagavat, 薄伽梵).' You should remember me in this way. Merchants, when you remember me in this way, any fear, apprehension, or hair-raising sensations that arise will disappear. If you cannot remember me, then remember the Dharma well-spoken by the Blessed One, which is directly visible, without disease, timeless, leading, and to be personally realized by the wise. Merchants, when you remember these five aspects of the Dharma, any fear, apprehension, or
